Hawkins said tax rates for persons living outside the city have not been determined but will be announced shortly. Portland tax rates were in creased six per cent last year and 13 per cent in 1958. The consolidated tax rate this year is 65 mills in the city as compared with 56.4 mills last year. But the mill age is being applied against a valuation of 40 per cent of true cash value as against an assessed value of 45 per cent in 1959. He said the valuation was being made to "get in step" with counties in other parts of the state. The result, he indicated, will be to level off the tax picture. He said the industry has shied away from Multnomah county as a high tax county. INFORMATION MAN DIES Philadelphia - ll'PD - Carl F.
