AUGUST 14, 1960 Klamath Falls Cops Oregon Legion Toga Klamath Falls (UPD Riant th Falli unleashed a 17-hlt batting assault against three Beaverton hurlers here Friday night to trounce Beaverton 19-5 and wrap up the Oregon American Legion baseball crown. The winners combined 17 base hits along with seven Beaverton errors and 12 walks to capture the state crown. . Klamath Falls won the best of five series 3-1. The victory moved Klam ath Falls Into the sectional junior Legion playoffs at Bend next Thursday. Eugene Nips Maids In Oregon Tourney The Rogue Valley Dairy maids flattened Klamath Falls 13-0 Saturday after noon In seven innings. The Maids meet the los er of the Salem vs. Eugene game in a match set for 2 p.m. today. If the Maids win that one they play again Sunday night. It was the Maids all the way Saturday as Klamath Falls failed to score. The Maids had 13 runs, eight hits and two errors to Kla math Falls no runs, five hits and six errors. Salem - Eugene McCulloch Chain Saw nicked Rogue Val ley Dairy Maids 1 to 0 with a seventh inning marker Fri day night in the opening game of the women's state tourna ment of the Oregon State Soft ball association. Defending champion Salem Shamrocks thumped Klamath Falls Baslnettes 10 to 3 in the other first round contest. Rogue Valley and Klamath Falls played last night with the loser eliminated from the tourney and the winner to advance to a game this after noon. Other Saturday night mix matched Eugene and Sa lem with the winner moving to tonight's finals and the loser to vie in this afternoon's contest. Fresno Tops Hawaiians Tooele, Utah - IUPII - The Fresno, Calif., Babe Ruth All Stars captured the Pacific Southwest regional champion ship Saturday afternoon with a pulsating, 4-3, victory over Hawaii. First baseman Don Pollard provided the northern Cali fornia kids with the margin of victory when he stole home in the fifth inning with two outs. Fresno scored three runs in the first inning : with Ron Potteroff's bases-loaded single the key hit. He drove in two runs with a sharp single. A third run scored on a hit by Bob Martin. The Honolulu kids closed the gap to 4-3 in the last of the sixth inning on a two run homer by pitcher Barnic Rey nolds. (UPD Milt Graff's two-out single in the bottom of the ninth inning scored Pete Gongola from sec ond base to give the Portland Beavers a 4-3 victory over the Salt Lake City Bees here Saturday afternoon. Graff's timely hit came aft er Gongola, who reached first base on a fielder s choice, ad vanced to second on an error, The winning hit came off Salt Lake reliever Kon Blackburn, who suffered his third loss in nine decisions. Larry Jansen, who came on in relief of starter Bob An derson in the eighth frame, was credited with his second victory against no losses. Follows Rally Graff's game-winning hit followed a two-run Salt Lake City rally that tied the con test at 3-3 in the top of the ninth. A two-run single by Ken . He edged Jack Creager 1 up in an 18-hole afternoon finale. It is Butler's second straight senior mantle. The Southern Oregon col lege professor had to rally from a four-hole deficit on the front side to take the title. LARRY BUTLER Wins Senior Tourney Creager, Pacific Telephone manager here, led 4 up after six holes. Butler had a 43-3881 card for the match and Creager a 42-4082. Creager won on the first, second, third and sixth holes. Then, the professor triumphed on Nos. 7, 8 and 9, cutting the telephone mans margin to just one hole. Butler won on 11 to even the match and went ahead ' on No. 12. He then took No. 14 to go 2 up. On 17 Creager hacked Butler's advantage. The two halved on No. 18. Decision Set On Ring Camp Seattle- (UPD - Promoter Tommy Moyer of the North west Boxing club said that it where Sonny Ltston and Ed- by the middle of this week where Sonny iLston and Ed die Machcn will locate their training camps. Llston and Machen, the two lop ranked contenders for the heavyweight crown, clash in a nationally televised 10 roundcr at Sicks' Stadium here Sept. 7. Cox, Lewis Top Classes In Meet Jim Cox and Rick Lewis, both of Medford, led all en trants at yesterdays all-comer track meet held in Medford at the high school stadium. Cox and Lewis each gain ed four firsts in their respec tive 11 and 12 and 10 and under divisions. Cox's firsts were in low hurdles, 70-yard dash, broad jump and the high jump. Lewis gained firsts in the low hurdles, broad jump, 70, and 330. Dennis Brumbach, Fred Keith and Roy Ross, all of Medford, were triple winners in the meet. Nancy Taylor led the girls, gaining five firsts. The final all-comers track meet will be held next Fri day morning on the SOC field in Ashland. CARRY IT1 Minson Next to Pick's Apparel Local Girl Gets 2 Wins In GP Event Grants Pass Medford mer maid Linda Hess churned the water to two first place wins Saturday during the first day of the two-day annual AAU- sanctioned Grants Pass Invi tational Swim Meet. The Medford swim star placed first in the 80-yard breast stroke for girls 15 and 16 years old and first in the 160-yard invidual medley. A total of 424 swimmers are entered in the meet which held 22 events Saturday plus diving contests. Twenty-two more events are scheduled for Sunday plus other diving matches. At the end of the first day's events Tualatin Hills swim club led with 79 points for the boys and 66V2 points for the girls. Northeast Y in Port land was second with 52 points for the boys and 49 V4 points for the girls. The Uni versity of Oregon Dolphins were third in boys' events with 43 points and North Bend girls were third with 48 counters. Other team scores for boys showed Grants Pass with 26, Medford, Eugene and North Bend with 20 points each, Roseburg 15, Lake View with 7, Willamalane (Springfield) 7, Parkrose (Portland) 6; and North Virginia Aquatic club of Arlington, Va., with 3.
