O&C Counties Get Record Payments Portland - (UP!) - The 18 counties which share in re ceipts from timber sold oft Oregon and California O&C railroad grant lands got more money than ever before from 1959 sales, the Interior de partment said today. : The total paid to the 18 counties was $24,347,868. This represents 75 per cent of the gross revenue of $32,517,157. The Bureau of Land Man agement is delivering treas ury checks totaling $16,258, 578 to the counties. The checks cover net payments after deduction of $8.1 million which the counties voluntarily made available for forest ac cess roads and reforestation. The largest check went to Douglas county, $4,082,529. Other counties received the following amounts: Benton, $460,117; Clackamas, $926, 738; Columbia, $255,259; Coos $956,004; Curry, $491,009; Jackson, $2,549,345; Jose phine, $1,954,281; Klamath, $1,388,580; Lane, $2,508,698; Lincoln, $58,530; Linn, $432, 478; Marion, $240, 626; Mult nomah, $284,525; Polk, $354, 437; Tillamook, $92,673; Washington, $105,680; Yam hill, $117,061. Nixon's cam paign strategists were pleased today by what they regarded as surprising displays of vol untary support from the long Democratic Deep South. The new support, indicated In field reports and mail reaching Nixon's headquar ters, has encouraged the Re publican presidential nominee to go ahead with his intention to stump every Southern state, including such Demo cratic strongholds as Georgia, Mississippi and South Caro lina. T Man Expelled Moscow (UPD The Youth Organ Komsomolskya Pravda reported today that a young American YMCA man has been expelled from Russia for giving "provocative liters ture" - including three Bibles - to a Russian. The newspaper identified the American as James Shultz, one of a group of 13 members of the YMCA's national stu dents' board who were touring Russia. It did not say where the incident took place, or Identify the Russian Shultz is upposed to have approached.
