O&C Counties Get
Record Payments
Portland - (UP!) - The 18
counties which share in re
ceipts from timber sold oft
Oregon and California O&C
railroad grant lands got more
money than ever before from
1959 sales, the Interior de
partment said today. :
The total paid to the 18
counties was $24,347,868. This
represents 75 per cent of the
gross revenue of $32,517,157.
The Bureau of Land Man
agement is delivering treas
ury checks totaling $16,258,
578 to the counties. The
checks cover net payments
after deduction of $8.1 million
which the counties voluntarily
made available for forest ac
cess roads and reforestation.
The largest check went to
Douglas county, $4,082,529.
Other counties received the
following amounts: Benton,
$460,117; Clackamas, $926,
738; Columbia, $255,259; Coos
$956,004; Curry, $491,009;
Jackson, $2,549,345; Jose
phine, $1,954,281; Klamath,
$1,388,580; Lane, $2,508,698;

the American as James Shultz,
