SUNDAY, AUGUST 7. I960 Hillbilly Event Planned Aug. 13 At Prospect Hall Prospect - The ninth annu al Hillbilly Jamboree will be held at the Prospect Commun ity hall and surrounding grounds Saturday, Aug. 13. Festivities will be launched by a parade through Prospect. The entries will be judged at the school grounds at 9:15 a.m. Parade time will be 10 a m. Trophies and prizes will be awarded upon arrival at the Jamboree grounds. Following the parade cere monies, the day's activities will include games, races, and entertainment. Prizes have been donated by the mer chants of Prospect, Union Creek, and vicinity. Girls competing for the hon or of being Jamboree Queen arc Barbara Allen, Vicky Ly cett, Virginia Eastman, and Shirley McElmurry. They are being sponsored by the Com munity club, Sharon Owens, last year's queen, will crown the new queen at midnight. Dancing from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. will be to live music. Food will be available during the day. Proceeds from the Jamboree are used to finance the Community hail. Higher Payments Allowed in Law Some veterans' widows re ceiving dependency and in demnity compensation may be entitled to receive higher payments as the result of a recently enacted law, S, T. Brannock, contact represent ative, VA Domiciliary, White City, said Friday, The amount of dependency and indemnity compensation is now based in part on the rank of the deceased veteran at the time of his separation from service. The new law, known as . Public Law 86-492, allows the widow to receive payments based on a higher rank, pro vided the veteran satisfactor ily held the higher rank for at least six months and was holding it within 120 days of the date of his death or sep aration from the service, Brannock said. The VA lacks the necessary Information to identify these eligible widows. Widows whose husbands at one time held a rank higher than their rank at separation, under the above conditions, should con tact the VA Contact office, post office building, VA Dom iciliary, White City. Assistant Cashier Named at Bank Here The appointment of Ken neth A. Wright as assistant -cashier and general loan offi cer at the Medford branch of First National Bank of Ore gon, has been announced by Joe A. Moore, vice president and manager of the branch, Wright has a background of 13 years with First National, starting at Salem branch in 1947. He was promoted to in stallment loan officer at Leb anon branch in 1952, and four years later moved up to gen eral loan officer. Wright was active in a number of community organi zations in Lebanon, including the Lions, chamber of- com merce, Jaycees, Parent-Teachers association, Elks, United Fund and American Legion, Local Youth Gets Institution Term Bobby Vernon Wright, 18, of 3225 Table Rock rd., was sentenced in circuit court Fri day to the Oregon State Cor rectional institution for three years for burglary not in a dwelling. He had pleaded guilty to entering a Medford church July 31, 1959, where he took about S80. Marvin Lee Hamilton, 17, of 895 Gibbon rd.. Central Point, pleaded guilty before Circuit Cgurt Judge James M. Main to burglary not in a dvel lingo Judge Main ordered a pre-sentence report. Hamil ton is charged with entering a lumber yard in Central Point. Medford Attorney John Dellenback was appointed counsel for James Vernon Dickinson, 43, of 328 North Riverside ave., Medford. Dick inson is charged with bur glary not in a dwelling. Washington Man Is Arrested by Police Stephen Charles Pratt, Se attle, Wash., was arrested by state police Friday on charges of petty larceny.
