Spot ters were placed on constant lookout so that fire crews could be moved quickly to any new areas that might de velop. Damages wore set at $100,000 for gen eral damages and $10,100 for special damages from the log ging company for Injuries suf fered in a logging accident in July, 19S8. HlllcJtnd originally h a d sought $431,000 in damages from Robert Kline ond his logging compony. He had charged the company and Kline with negligence at the time of the accident. Fires Reported; No Fruit Damage - Numerous spot fires were reported by forestry agencies from' iriday night; 'thunder storms. No fruit damage was reported, according to local pear growers Saturday. The U. S. Forest Service re ported 10 .'Ires of not more than a quarter acre all in the mop-up stage. Sixteen previous spot fires caused by lightning strikes- were either in the mop up stage or out Saturday, according to Rogue National Forest officials. Nixon Salvage Crews Find Wreckage Of Space Capsule Cupc Canavoral-flJPD-Wrock-agc of a project Mercury mun-into-space capsule which plunged Into the Atlantic ocean off Cape Canaveral Frldoy was recovered Satur day night by salvage crews, the Federal Space Agency said. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration said several large pieces of the bell-shaped capsule were found about five miles off shore in approximately 50 feet of water. The sections were returned to Cape Canaveral for ex amination and analysis. Lot Better Shape . "This leaves us in a helluva lot better shape than we were this time this morning," one source close to the Mercury program said. The Mercury capsule, which will carry an astronaut to the edge of space early next year and into orbit sometime in late 1961, was launched aboard an Atlas missile in a driving rain Friday morning in its most Important test to date. However, the experiment failed when the Atlas booster blew up about 65 seconds after blast off. Officials said it had not been determined what caused the explosion. An intensive search for the wreckage was immediately launched. NASA said 3Vi minutes of in-flight telemetry data and preliminary examination ol the wreckage indicated the capsule probably hit the wa ter intact, and then was torn apart. The telemtry Included the time from blast off through the capsule's plunge into the ocean.
