p.m. for the first running of
the Southern Oregon cham
pionships, destined to become
an annua affair.
The long straightaways of
the fairgrounds track will al
low speeds of more than 100
miles an hour and the thrills
that are associated with such
high speed.
Race entries have been
coming In from ull over the
country as the $1,300 guar
anteed purse and the chance
to win a four-foot trophy arc
attracting the cream of the
super-modified crop. This will
be one of the largest purses
paid for hardtop type cars in
the northwest.
This race marks the return
of Jack McCoy of Ashland to
local racing. He will be driv
ing the entry of Southern
Oregon Speed and Marine of
Medford. This car will be
powered by a Chevrolet Im
pala engine and should be
very potent.
Ed Brown of Willows,
has entered. Ed has made two
appearances at Ashland this
season and both times won
his heat and the main event.
His car is a very fast Chevro
let, Brown and McCoy both
arc veterans of late model
stock car racing and both are
experienced on long dirt
tracks such as the fairgrounds
oval. Both drivers also are
well known to southern Ore
gon racing fans .
The championship event
will begin with time trials at
1 p.m., with the first heat
race to start at 2 p.m. Main
event will be for SO laps.
