Dozens of other UPI staff member will keep around-the-clock vigils on candidate and their headquarters and on key delegations and watching the smoke-filled rooms. Hundred of thousands of word will be written and edited for transmission on UPI wlrcn to newspaper and radio station throughout the world. Hundreds of pictures also be prcx-cswd and dis tributed to news outlets. Veteran Shock Troops The shock troops of the UPI new corps will be veteran members of the Washington bureau, headed by UPI vice president and Washington munager Lylc C. Wilson, and Washington news editor Julius Frandscn. . Wilson, a top political au thority, will write daily Inter pretive column. Other main dispatches will be written by Raymond Lahr, chief political writer; William Thel. chief of the Senate staff; Merriman Smith, White House reporter: and Jack V. Fox,, special writer from New York. Kirt land I. King, New York state new manager, will provide p e c I a I coverage of Gov. Rockefeller.. In addition to these report ers.' the convention staff in cludes a large number of seasoned news photographers such a Frank Canccllare and Publilzcr Prize-winner An drew Lopez; feature writer like Dick West, who will author the widely used "Lighter Side" column; top rewrite men like Joseph L. Myler and Robert Barkdoll, and panic-proof editor Ernest Barcella, Grant Dillman and William L. Umstread. Executive supervision o ( the entire convention oper-. atlons will be In the hand of UPI President Frank H. Bar-, tholomew; Earl J. Johnson,; editor, and Roger Tatarlnn,. managing editor. The pho tographic staff will be under direction of Frank Tremalne,! general newsplcturea man-' ager, and Harold Blemenield, executive editor. Shakespearean Workshop at SOC Aug. 1-12 Ashland-Aug. 1 through 12 Southern Oregon college will offer a Shakespearean work shop dealing with three as pects of the Elizabethan thea of psychology, Dr. Kenneth tcr. Dr. Hugh Bell, professor Clarke, associate professor of English, and Dr. Arthur Solo mon, assistant professor of speech, all of Chico State col lege, will be In charge. The course will place spe cial emphasis on human rela tions, literature and drama, respectively. Students enroll ed in the workshop will be grouped according to their in terest. A part of the workshop will be attendance at the four plays being offered by the Oregon Shakespearean Festi val association, "Taming of the Shrew, "The Tempest," "Richard II," and "Julius Caesar." . Credit Given Three quarter hours of up per division or graduate credit will be granted for suc cessful completion of the workshop. Auditors will also be accepted. Two additional workshops to be offered Aug. 1-12 arc music in the elementary school, with instructor Miss Hclcne Robinson, associate professor at SOC, and art in the elementary school, with instructuor Ruth Halvorsen from the Portland public school system. There also will be a special post at Southern Oregon col lege Aug. 15-26, during which three seminar workshops will be given for credit: social sci e n c e . in the elementary school; language arts in the elementary school; and Span ish in the elementary school, instructed by Dennis Hannan, associate professor of lan guage at SOC. Art Seminar Set For SOC Campus Ashland-Art In the elemen tary and secondary school, a two-week seminar workshop course, will be conducted on the Southern Oregon college campus Aug. 1 to 12 by Ruth Halvorsen, director of art for the Portland public schools. According to Richard Doi, SOC art professor, the work shop will be concerned with new methods, materials, and trends In art. He said the con centrated course will be of special interest to persons al ready teaching art and also to those who have not yet taken an art education course. Three hours upper-division college credit will be given for the course and classes will he held at 8 a.m. to noon and I to 4 p.m. each day. Additional seminars to be given during the same period include music in the elemen tary school and two special Shakespearean seminars. The music seminar will be con ducted by Miss Helene Robin son, associate professor of mu sic at SOC. Three Instructors from Chi co stale college win leacn human relation in Shake speare and selected Shake spearean play, with attend ance at the four plays being offered by the Oregon Shake spearean Festival being a part of th ccourse plan.
