All of the grand officers of the grand chapter of Oregon were in attendance with the exception of the grand secre tary. Other distinguished and honored members were the worthy grand matron and pa tron of Washington, Mrs. Becky Davis and Robert Cun ninghnm, with other grand officers. Eleven past grand matrons, seven past grand patrons, 33 grand committee members, 20 grand representatives nnd many worthy matrons nnd pa trons from throughout Oregon were also present. Mrs. Hermann was given a surprise addendum by the Portland Assembly 14 of Rainbow Girls and one by her local Maple chapter of Sea side. 1 The Southern Oregon association addendum was a ship, the S.S. Mattic Hermann, in which they "sailed" Mrs. Hermann to three ports repre senting the Roguo River val ley, the Klamath basin and the Umpqua volley. At each port Mrs. Hermann was pre sented with gifts appropriate to that section of Southern Oregon. At the close of the addendum, Mrs. Shores pre sented both Mr. and Mrs. Her mann with honorary mem berships In the Southern Ore gon association. The decorations for the eve ning centered around the Rainbow which is Mrs. Her mann's symbol for the yenr. Miss Lyman to Teach in Fall At University Gold MUl-Mlss Shirley Ly man, daughter of Mr. and Ernest Lymnn, Gold Hill, re ceived her muster of science degree in foods and nutrition lust month from Oregon State college, Corvallls. She plans to visit her par ents after August 1 and in mid- August will leave for Tusca loosa, Ala,, where she has ac cepted a teaching position at tho university of Alabama. A graduate of Crater High school with the cluss of 1053, MIbs Lyman attended Oregon Statu college where she re ceived B bachelor of science in 1037 In home economics and a master of science degree In foods and nutrition. Her mas ter's thesis was on "The Effect of Freezing on Microscopic Structure and Palutabilily of French Fried Foods." Since July 1038, Miss Ly man has been a Junior home economist instructor, doing home economics foods re search at the college. After graduation last June, she re mained In Corvnllis where she plans to continue this work until August 1. Miss Lyman was elected to Omicron Nu home economics honorary, ond Kappa Delta PI, education honorary. She lived In Azalea house where she was house manager and served as vice president one year. She is a member of the American Home Economics association, Oregon Home Economics association, the state council and is chairman of the Oregon Home Econom ics association research com mittee. She is also a member of the American Association of University Women. Among activities in which she participated when a stu dent at Crater High included the Girl's League, Future Homemakers of America, Comets, and the annual staff. She served as treasurer of the Future Homemakers of Amer ica group during her junior year and was selected as foot boll princess during her sen ior year. Miss Lyman received a third place award In the Elks Scholarship dlyision when a senior, The newest shopping bags arc imprinted with shopping list blanks. Families Hold Runion Applegute Valley-Fifty sev en persons, Including frionds, attended tho second annual reunion and dinner of the Hasklns and Saltmarsh fam ilies held last Sunday at the home of Mr, and Mrs, Dean Soltmarsh, 2710 Stewart av enue, Medford. Mrs. Val Has klns of Jacksonville was pre sented a large birthday coke. 'those coming from a dis tance for the reunion were Mrs. Cora Rankin and son Kenneth, Sllverton, Ore., Mrs. Frank Fclge, Auburn, Calif., and Mrs. Peggy Lay, Klamath Falls. Attending from Ashland were Mrs. Paul Guilcy and Mr. and Mrs. Michael Eastman. Frank Wat son, San Jose, a guest of Mr. and Mrs. John Byrne, also attended. ' Melvin Saltmarsh, Medford, was elected president of the group, and Mrs. Gulley was elected secretary. The home of Dick Saltmarsh on Cole man creek was selected as the meeting place for next year. The first pioneers of these families came to Jackson county in 1852. Chevalier Degree To Be Conferred On Three Youths Three Medford youths, Les lie Little, Billy Williams and Dick Swinney, will receive the chevalier degree of the Order of De Molay at a public ceremony Monday, July 25, at 8 p.m. in the Medford Mason ic temple. This is the highest honorary degree to be at tained in the Order of De Molay. The advisory board, assist ed by Oregon chapter. Knights Templar, will con duct the ceremony with Ross Gilkison conferring the degrees. The Shrine Chanters will provide music during the eve ning. Following the ceremony re freshments will be served by the De Molay Mothers' club In the dining room. All De Molay members, friends and persons Interested in De Molay are invited to attend. 1 Picnic Medford Christian Temper ance Union will hold a picnic Thursday, July 28 at the ranch home of Dr. B. R. El liott, 2186 Hanlcy Road. Those needing transportation are asked to call SP 2-8449, and then to be at the Presby terian church by 11 a.m. Couple to Leave For Stay Abroad part of a years trip which Cave Junction - Mr. and Mrs. Martin Halburson, Ker by, will leave July 26 for New York City on the first will take them to Norway. The couple plan to drive east, stopping at points of interest, and will sail from New York aboard the SS Stanangnfjord September 20. They plan to take their car with them. After landing at Proanb hem, Norway, they will visit Mr. and Mrs. Hollli Fronts, parents of Mrs. Halburson, and five sisters and two broth ers of Mr. Halburson that they have not seen for mora than 50 years.
