Cordon levied the fine against Piersall because he had tossed baseballs into three gloves he had laid out on the ground for the amusement of right field patrons. In addtion, the Tribe man ager set up an automatic $500 fine for each time Piersall is thrown out of the game by an umpire for the remainder of the season. Gordon's action came short ly after General Manager Frank Lane had said iPersall "needs sympathetic handling."
