Paint Thinner Delays Pool Job A mix-up In the delivery of paint thinner delayed the painting of the Jackson park swimming pool yesterday, ac cording to Recreation Super visor Ken Lyons. Lyons said the thinner, which was ordered from Port land was mistakenly deliv ered to Coos Bay instead of Medford. The thinner was to be delivered yesterday after noon, he said. The pool will not be open until Wednesday, at the earl iest, Lyons said, to give the paint the proper amount of time to dry. Painting of the pool is be ing done, he pointed out, to give the pool a smoother sur face. The city has received numerous complaints about children scraping their feet on the bottom and sides of the plaster finished pool. Cost of the painting will be about $500, Lyons said. The second session of swim ming instruction classes, which were scheduled to start at Jackson pool July 11, have been cancelled and will be rescheduled at a later date, he said. listen to It, Crcager says. Here's how the machine Is supposed to work: When some one misdlals or dials a telephone number that has been taken out of service, they arc automatic ally connected to the an nouncing machine. "This is a recording," the voice says. "The number you have reached is not In service at this time. If you need as sistance stay on the line and an operator will answer." Wait for Oparator The telephone user, Crcager points out, who docs not need operator assistance should look up the number in the phone directory before dialing again. Those who need assistance should wait for the operator to answer. "What's happening," Cre ager says, "is that callers reaching the announcement stay on the line, and then ask the operator for infor mation not available to her." The questions are some times as far afield as, "What time does the next bus leave for Grants Pass?" and "How do you spell 'Minneapolis'?" Creager said the announc ing machine is arranged so that only calls that are mis dialed or calls to permanent ly disconnected numbers reach it. Calls to numbers that have been changed or where the number is temporarily dis connected at the subscribers request, go directly to the operator. She then Informs the caller of the new number or notifies him of the tem porary disconnect. Creager said the announc ing machine was installed be cause the Company hoped to save customer's time on calls requiring assistance. He still has hopes. 4-H Prefair Slated At Talent Saturday Jackson county's second prefair of the season will be held at the Talent Community hall starting at 9:30 a.m. Sat urday for the Talont-Phocnix 4-H clubs.
