Lippmann didn't bother with the rule that says you must look into the camera when you talk. He addressed his interviewer, Howard K. Smith, and we were truly eavesdroppers. Lippmann spoke calmly but with feeling He answered questions with utmost honesty. No shilly-shal lying. He's not a candidate for public office and so can afford the virtue. He spoke as if he could read about our times from a history book to be written 100 years from today and his quotes were spare, hard and rare for nighttime, summertime, non-Sunday TV. The study was made of stu dents' testa in grades 6, 8 and 11. The study was delivered by Ray Lewis, research as sistant at the University, to the Legislative Interim Com mittee on Education Thursday ight. Lewis labeled the findings as enlightening and said Ore gon has made a really signif icant gain in achievement since 1050 when a similar comparison was made." In 1950, Oregon was found to be below the national norms in the sixth and eighth grades.
