Truck-Car Mishap Reported in Ashland Awhland An accident in volving a Pacific Moior Transport truck and a pussen ger car was reported by Ash land police today. CP Police Arrest California Man Central Polnt-A California man, stopped by Central Point police shortly after 1 a.m. Thursday for a minor traffic violation, was found to be wanted by California authorities. Arrested was James Eugene Lee, 28, of Santa Monica, Calif. According to Chief Wally Bowcn, a felony war rant, citing eight charges, has been Issued for Lee in Yreka, Calif. It was learned that he is wanted on four other felony charges in California. After Siskiyou county au thorities had returned Lee to Yreka, the California motor vehicle department notified Central Point police that the vehicle Lee was driving when arrested had been stolen in Santa Monica June 14. Bowcn said he had stopped Lee for making unnecessary noise with tires and took him to the police station for rou tine questioning. Hearing Asked in Post Office Move Portland -ll?t'- The battle to keep regional postoffice head quarters from being moved to Seattle continued today as Rep. FxJith Green (D-Ore.) asked for a congressional hear ing. The plans to move the head quarters from Portland have drawn a storm of protest from Oregon leaders since they were announced earlier this week. Mrs. Green said she has asked Congressman Tom Mur ray of Tennessee, chairman of the postoffice and civil serv ice committee, to get the transfer held up until hear ings can be held. She said if she didn't get satisfaction there she was prepared to ask the government operations committee for a hearing. Rep. Walter Norblad (R- Orc.) also criticized the move and said he hoped the order would be rescinded. Elliott Roosevelt Sued for Divorce Meeker, Colo. (UPI) Elliott Roosevelt's fourth wife, the former Minnewa Bell Ross, sued in Rio Blanco County Court Thursday for a divorce and alimony. Roosevelt, eldest son of the wartime president, married t h e California heiress in March, 1951. Ho operates large ranch on Colorado's western slope near Meeker, and maintains a winter home at Phoenix. Ariz. He is a Colo rado delegate to the Demo cratic National Convention at Los Angeles. Mrs. Roosevelt asked for the divorce on the grounds of mental cruelty. Roosevelt's previous wives were Elizabeth Donncr, Ruth Goodins, and actress Faye Emerson. Business Council Elects President Salem -(UPD- State Sen. Rob ert F. White (R - Salem) has been elected president of the Oregon Business Council, a group socking to regulate trading stumps in the state. White Is a seed dealer here and former Salem mayor. Ho said 29 states have es tablished regulation of the stamps. The council wants to "safeguard" use of the stamps with lnws to "protect the pub lic and the buiness community of the state." The Council has not indi cated yet what type of regula tions it will propose. A move to sharply restrict use of the stamps died in the 1959 Legislature. Naumes, died Thursday evening at the family residence. She was born Feb. 28, 1870, In High land Park, Ill Mr. Naumes, who died In 1953 from injuries suffered in an automobile accident in Washington, formed Associ ated Fruit company In Med ford and was owner of Naumes Orchards of Oregon Inc. The former Dillle Nevins married Mr. Naumes in High land Park, III., Oct, 31, 1908. They lived in the Midwest, until 1910 when the family moved to Hood River, Ore., where Mr. Naumes was en gaged in orchard activities They moved to Medford in 1929. . Mrs. Nuumcs was a mem ber of Sacred Heart Catholic church, past president of St. Anne's Altar society, member of Providence Guild and Gray Ladies. Survivors include three sons. Edward Naumes, Chi cago; William Joseph Naumes and Robert A. Naumes, botn Medford; 10 grandchildren; and four brothers and sisters, Mrs. Cecile McDonnell, Evans- ton. 111.: Mrs. Gertrude Wil liams, Bloomington, 111.; Ed ward Nevins, Highlandj Park, 111., and W. P. Nevins, Chi cago. A lourth son, L.ari a. Naumes, died in infancy in Hood River, Funeral arrangements, un der the direction of Perl Fu neral home, are pending the arrival of relatives. Tilstrom Visits Festival Theater Bert Tilstrom, the voice of Kukla and Ollie, the two pup pets in the former Kukla, Fran and Ollie show, visited and was impressed by the Oregon Shakespearean Festi val at Ashland yesterday. Tilstrom was both amazed and delighted" with the work being done, Festival sources said. He was especially im pressed that the company was supported by local donation and that the company had many non-professional actors. Tilstrom, a guest of Robert son Collins of Medford rived about midnight while rehearsals for Richard II were under way. He left the valley this morning for Los Angeles, where he is appearing on the Dave Garroway show. The weather bureau an nounced presentation of a series of certificates to out standing volunteer weather servers who send the govern ment information on rainfall ind temperatures. Seven persons will receive the new Thomas Jefferson award for "unusual and out standing accomplishment in the field of meteorological ob servations." i is named after Jefferson because the nation's third president kept an almost continuous record of the weather from 1776 to 1816. Salem Newspapers Approve Contracts Salem-fflPD-The Statesman- Journal newspapers and the Stereotypers, Pressmen and Typographical unions have approved new three-year con tracts effective Friday. Approved were wage hikes including $2.50 a week the first year and $2 more the second year. Third year wages will be negotiated at the end of the second year.
