ORE 3 SPORTS Favorites Defeated in State Golf Vancouver, Wash.-IUPD-Two of the favorites fell by the wayside Wednesday In the first round of match play of the Oregon Golf association championships. Co-medalist Dick Price of Longview lost by a 3 to 1 icore to Kent Myers of Salem. Dick Yost of Portland dropped a 1-up decision to Phil Underwood, also of Port land. Yost won the tourna ment in 1990 and 19S6. Bob Atkinson of Portland, co-medalist in qualifying with Price at 135, won his match, going 17 holes to defeat Tom Hibberd, a Claremont college student 2 and 1. Don Kreiger, the defend ing champion, won his match with a 5 and 4 decision over Mack Wiebe of Portland State. George Beechler of On tario, who won the 1955 title, went an extra hole to defeat Dick Stearns of Portland. Women were to play their quarterfinal matches today. Yanks, Giants Gain Victories Medford teams won Inter mediate league games yester day, inaugurating Southern Oregon Junior Baseball for 1960. The Yankees nipped Cen tral Point 4 to 3 and the Gi ants trimmed Ashland 14 to 6. Rusty Miller scored the winning run for the Yanks jn the bottom of the seventh inning. Ron Edmunds sacri ficed him to second. Two in tentional free passes filled the bases and Miller tallied on an error. Medford had three runs in the fifth inning on a single by Edmunds, a triple by Mike Neathamer, a walk; a passed ball and an error. The Point ers got one run in the fifth on a hit batter, stolen base and error and two in the sixth on two bases on balls, a double steal by Darrell Sum merfield and Mason and a double by Frohreich. The Giants utilized 21 walks off rival pitchers and seven Ashland miscues and had two six-run innings. Dean Samuelson had four hits in four times up for Ashland.
