Josaph Edward Hasler (Landit Photo) Catholic Rites IV d Pair The wedding of Janice Ma rie Grove to Joseph Edward Hasler waa solemnized June 4 at the Sacred Heart Catholic church here. The bride la a daughter -of Mr. and Mra. M. O. Grove, Fern Valley road, Medford, and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hasler, Table Rock road, Cen tral Point. The Rev. William McLeod performed the double-ring cer emony at three o'clock In the afternoon. Basketa of pink and white daisies provided a set ting for the rites. A program of organ music was played be fore the ceremony. The bride, escorted to the Altar by her father, wore a floor length gown of Chantilly lace with a Sabrina neckline and long sleeves. Her mantilla type fingertip length veil was edged in scallops of French Valenciennes lace and was held by a crown of Chantilly lace and seed pearls. She car ried a cluster of white steph- Miss Carpenter Honor Graduate Miss Karen Carpenter, Med ford, is a member of the I960 class to be graduated from Verde Valley school, Sedona, Ariz., today. Miss Carpenter, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dunbar Carpenter, Foothills road, as served as both secre tary and president of the stu dent body, waa a member of the student council and an honor roll student. The school reports that she was a Nation al Merit scholarship finalist and Is on the academic, inde pendent study, high honors and high effort honors lists of the school. In addition Miss Carpenter gang with the school chorus, was a member of an Instru mental ensemble and served as school accompanist. She played on the school's El Pato team. The student haa been awarded an honorary scholar ship to Radcliffe college, and will enroll in the fall. Miss Carpenter's mother and younger sister, Emily, are In Sedona today to attend the ceremonies. Verde Valley school, a col lece preparatory school, was founded in 1948 by Mr. and Mrs. Hamilton Warren to pro mote responsible citizenship and Intercultural understand ing. In Its program the school includes annual study trips to Mexico and Indian reserva tions, and offera courses In anthropology and philosophy. Miss Carpenter has attended the school two years. Medford Woman Home From East Mrs. L. A. Bean haa re turned to her home at 608 Franquette atreet after spend ing several weeks In the mid west and eastern states. In New York Mr. Bean waa joined by Mrs. Clara TUley, , who has been spending sev eral months in California but has now also returned to Medford. The two women saw number of television shows. In Patoka, III., Mrs. Bean visited Mrs. Carl Meador, a sister, and also saw her grand son, Robert Jennings, stu dent at Ohio university. The young man will spend the summer at Cape Cod working with summer theater group. anotis and a white orchid on her prayerbook. Miss Pamela Grove, sister of the bride, was maid-of-hon-or. She wore a gown of mint green chiffon over taffeta, with matching hat, and car ried a bouquet of white Dutch iris. Miss Bertha Hasler, sister of the bridegroom and Miss Linda Dysinger wore dresses of yellow chiffon over taffeta, with matching hats and car ried bouquets of yellow Dutch Iris. A niece of the bride groom, , Karen Victorine, of Tulelake, Calif., was flower girl. She wore a dress of mint green chiffon over tafctta and carried a basket of white and yellow daisies. Robert Bobbctt was best man. . Ushers were Thomas Caldwell and Donald Relling. For her daughter's wedding Mrs. Grove wore a beige linen sheath with lace jacket and matching accessories .The bridegroom's mother wore a green figured print dress with black accessories and a bronze orchid. Mrs. L. O. Pcnland, mater nal grandmother of the bride, was attired in pink lace with matching accessories and her corsage was a pink orchid. Miss Gloria Ford was In charge of the guest book. Approximately 200 guests were entertained at the recep tion held in the Rogue Val ley Country club. The wed ding cake, made and decor ated by the bride's grand mother, Mrs. Penland, was encircled with white orchids. Mrs. Penland cut and served the cake with the assistance of Mrs. H. C. Witham, aunt of the bride. The crystal branch cande labra holding white tapers which stood on the bride's ta ble had been wedding gifts to the bride's parents and the while lace tublecloth was a wedding gift lo the bride. An heirloom knife, belonging to Mrs. Z. N. Agee was used to cut the cake. The knife, more than 100 years old, hns been used at many weddings In the valley. Serving at the punch bowls were Mrs. Michael Popow and Miss Wava Glasscock. For the wedding trip to Lake Tahoe the bride wore a yellow cotton lace sheath over satin with yellow and green accessories. The couple will make their home in Medford. Before the wedding the bride was honored at a party given by Mrs. Ken Walker and Mrs. Fern Caldwell, and three parties given by various members of the staff of Rogue Valley Memorial Hospital. The bride s parents gave a wedding rehearsal dinner at North's Chuck Wagon. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Vic torine of Tulelake, sister and brother-in-law of the bride groom and Mrs, Dan Morton, Brownsboro, sister of the bridegroom attended the wed ding. The bride, a graduate of Phoenix High school, is a stu dent practical nurse at Rogue Valley Memorial hospital. The bridegroom, who was graduated from St. Mary's High school, Is with the Med ford Concrete and Construc tion company. At Piano House Voice and piano pupils of Mrs. Effie H. Kurtz will be presented In recital at the Puruckcr Piano house this af ternoon at 3 o'clock. Both beginner and advanced students will appear. They in clude Jean and Kathy Allen, Dorothy Arney, Glorlanne, Gary and Mattewlllls Beard, Karen Christensen, Diane Franklin, Nancy Kaylor, Mar lene Klym, Carla Morris, Claudia Owen, Nancy Piazza, David Saxbury, Patty Selby, Linda and Sharon Smith, Gary, Carol and Steven Stod dard and Bonnie Wilson. Interested friends are in vited. Coffee Hour Set Medford Junior Women's club will have a coffee hour at 1:30 o'clock Wednesday, June IS. Mrs. James A. Wells, 723 Palm street, will serve as hostess for the event. Assist ing will be Mrs. Richard W, Ackcrman and Mrs. Virgil I. Morton. Reception Given Sunday Observes Anniversary Central Point - The 40th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. J. Edwin Vincent of Central Point was cele brated at a reception held Sunday, June 8, at the home of Col. and Mrs. Fred Greene, Medford Couple Earns Degrees From College Clifford Cordy Jr. received his second and third bachelor of science degrees in electrical engineering and physics, and his wife, Loleta Buell Cordy, received her degree in home economics from Oregon State college June 8. Hli parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Cordy, 2134 Beall lane, travelled to Corvallis for the graduation ceremonies. Also attending were an aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. J. Mon toya, Napa, Calif., and an aunt, Mrs. M. Vance, San Francisco. Clifford Cordy graduated from Crater High school in 1995. He is working . this summer for General Electric company on guided missile research at Hanford, Wash., and plans to return to school In the fall for advanced study. Son Graduates, Is Commissioned Mr. and Mrs. Julius G. Dobrot, 2044 Scenic avenue, have returned from Corvallis after attending the Oregon State college graduation cere mony. Their son, Carl Andrew Dobrot, was a member of the class and received his degree in engineering. The graduate was also commissioned a sec ond lieutenant In the United States Air Force. During the coffee hour which followed the graduation, Mrs. Dobrot pinned the gold ban on her son. Lt. Dobrot has reported for duty at Colorado Springs, Colo. Later he will return to attend the University of Washington for one year, ma joring in meteorology. The D o b r o t s daughter, Joan, who recently completed her sophomore year at Oregon State college, will apend the summer with her parents. She is majoring In food technology. Long Mountain road, Eagle Point. Hosts tor the event were Mrs. Vincent's brothers-in-law and sisters, the Greenes, Mr. and Mrs. C. Clyde Briggs, Sacramento, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. David H. Rees, formerly of Medford and now of Mt. Shasta, Calif., and Mr. and Mrs. Francis B, Russell, Medford. About 100 guests called during the afternoon. Mrs. Elmer Hull and Mrs. Charles Hockersmith, Phoe nix, poured, Mrs. Maurice Ritchey, a niece of the honor ed couple, cut the wedding anniversary cake, and Mrs, Robert C. Vincent, wife of the Vincent's son, took charge of the guest book. For the event Mrs. Vincent wore a pale pink lace gown with lavender orchid corsage, The Vincents were married June 9, 1920, In Reedsport, Ore., at the home of the bride's grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Foster. Mrs. Vin cent is the former Clara Col lins and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel C. Collins, were well known residents of the Table Rock area. Here for the reception Sun day were C. C. Collins, a brother of Mrs. Vincent, Mrs. Collins and their daughter, ratsy sue. Degree Received By Alberta Fry Portland-Alberta Puhl Fry of 3820 Grant road, Central Point, was among 70 candi dates who received bachelor of science degrees in nursing at the University of Oregon School of Nursing commence ment exercises June 9 in the University of Oregon Medical School Library auditorium. Dr. John Francis Cramer, president emeritus of Port land State college, delivered the address during commence ment ceremonies. Miss Jean E. Boyle, director of the School of Nursing, presented candidates for their degree. Baccalaureate and three mas ter of science degrees in nurs ing were conferred by Dr. Arthur Esslinger, dean of the school of health and physical education at the University of Oregon. Mrs. Fry, one of 22 regis tered nurse students to re ceive the baccalaureate de gree, earned her R. N. at Good Samaritan hospital, Portland. She is a graduate of Medford Senior High school and attended Oregon State college and Southern Oregon college. Her parents are Mr. and Mrs. Albert H. Puhl of Med ford. Family to Live In Alabama City Mrs. Henry Stevens and two children, Khrls and Kath leen, left Medford by plane June 3 to join Mr. Stevens, who Is an airman first class with the USAF stationed at Thomasville, Alabama. Mr. Stevens planned to) meet his family at Dallas, Tex. Mrs. Stevens is the fur mer Donna Walker of Med ford. The airman is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Ste vens, 20 Lincoln street. Fashions ... 'AiHONCJNTal Delegate Named For Convention Miami Beach - Miss Sallv Elden of Route 1, Central Point, Ore., has been elected as a delegate to the Alpha Phi fraternity international con vention in Miami Beach, Fla. The convention will be held at the Carillon hotel June 20-25. The convention theme, "The Ivy Vine Grows" will depict the development of the frater nity since it was founded 88 years ago at Syracuse univer sity, Syracuse, New York. Areas to be stressed are the fraternity international phil anthropy, cardiac aid, and the fraternity's newest and most far reaching project, the Al pha Phi foundation which was launched three years ago to provide scholarships for stu dents, and to make education al grants to universities.
