Atoms for Peace Awards Presented Washington- (Science Serv ice) - Kour outstanding sci entists in the field of nuclear reactions have been awarded the Atoms for Pence Awards at the National Academy of Sciences. Two of them, Drs. Leo Sil ard of the University nf Chi cago and Eugene P. Wignor of Princeton university, draft ed the famous letter of Albert Einstein to President Frank lin D. Roosevelt tl at finally resulted in Government sup port for studies of nuclear reactions. Another rerinient nr vni. ter H. Zinn, vice-president of Combustion Engineering, Inc.. worked with Dr. Szilard In observing the neutrons re leased when uranium fissions. This observation demonstrat ed the possibility of the chain reaction. Dr. Alvin M. Weinberg, di rector of the Atomic Energy Commission's Oak Ridce Na tional Laboratory, won the award for his sustained con tributions to the nuclear re actor development.
