Book Is Reviewed For Study Club j "Living in State" by Beat-j rice Russell was the book re viewed recently by the Wednesday Study Club at Girls' Community club. The review was given by Mrs. Ha zel E. Flurry. The author has described life in the American Foreign Service as seen through the eyes of a junior officer's wife. Her husband Earle Russell Jr., passed the State Depart ment examinations and re quested Ethiopia as his post. Mrs. Russell dispels the idea that Foreign Service officers and their wives are "cookie pushers" living a life of ease. She says diplomats are re ferred to disparagaingly as the "striped-pants set" and yet the social end is a serious business, according to Mrs. Flurry's review. Mrs. Rita Miller read an ar ticle describing the Parke-Ber-net Auction galleries on Mad ison Avenue, New York, where many priceless treas ures are sold; many coming from Fifth avenue homes which are "breaking up."
