Residents may register at the contest counter to enter the nation-wide contest which will end June 1. Williamstown, Mass. - IUPD -Charles Denison Makepeace, 85, retired treasurer of Wil liams College, died Tuesday. Portland Lensman Files Counter Suit Portland-CPD-A $2,450,000 counter-suit was filed Wednes day by Portland contact lens maker George M. Butterfieid aganist a Los Angeles lens making firm. The suit was filed in fed eral court here against Solex Laboratories, Inc. It hit back at a March 15 suit by Solcx charging that Butterfieid had infringed on a patent granted Kevin M. Tuchy in 1950. The Solex suit claims that contact lenses by Butterfieid intrude on Tuchy's patent. Butterfields counter claim maintained that Tuchy's pat ent is too vague to constitute a valid patent and that it actually is an infringement on a patent granted to him in 1951. SOCIAL WORKER DIES New York-OIPD-Mrs. Henri etta Llchtenberg Gordon, 62, a prominent social worker specializing in child welfare, died Tuesday. She was direc tor of publications for the Child Welfare League of America. Rogue River VFW Sets Loyalty Day Rogue River - The Rogue River Veterans of Foreign Wars post will have a loyalty day program May 1 at 2 p.m. at the VFW post home. The public Is invited. Winners of the auxiliary essay contest will be on the program. They are Steve Simer, first; Barry Frantz, second; and Jessie Holsinger, third. Al Babcock Is commander of the post and Mrs. Anna Classick is program chairman. Refreshments will be served. Coast Guard Raises Age Requirements The Coast Guard has raised Its age requirements for entry into the Coast Guard Reserve six-month active duty pro gram. In the past the age limit was from 17 to 21 years. New age limits include men who have not reached their 26th birlhdate. Men in this age group who are Interested In the program may contact ihe Coast Guard recruiting station in Eugene for details. Umatilla Herd Under Quarantine Salem-tUPD-State and feder al veterinarians announced to day that only one of the herds exposed In a Baker county outbreak last January still is under quarantine and that herd is in Umatilla county. A spokesman here said all Baker county herds have been dipped and released. The Uma tilla county herd was treated earlier but "not under official supervision" and arrange ments have been made for retreatment. California still has an em bargo against beef cattle movement into that state from Baker and adjoining Union, Grant, Malheur and Wallowa counties. Entry may be made from elsewhere in Oregon on an official health examination and veterinarian's certificate.
