(Knackstedt photo) Medford Presbyterians Announce Easter Events Easter music and message will be heard at the First Presbyterian church at three services, 8, 9:30, and 11 a.m. The sermon topic, "The Meaning of the Resurrec tion," will be presented by the pastor, Dr. D. Kirkland West. At the early service the high school youth choir will sing, "Lift High the Cross" and the solo, "Open The Gates of The Temple" will be sung by John Lacy. The chancel choir under the direction of Lynn Sjolund will sing two anthems at the 9:30 and 11 services, "Easter Alleluia" and "How Lovely Is Thy Dwelling Place." Mrs. Charles Champlin and Otis Swisher will be heard in a duet, "Hosanna." Great . classics from the masters will also be featured on the organ throughout the services by the two organists, Mrs. R. A. Shel don and Mrs. Richard Hart. Easter Sunrise service will be at Hueners Butte at 6 a.m. Easter followed by breakfast at the church at 6:45 a.m. There will be no regular eve ning meetings. Instead, the 2-hour film "Martin Luther" will be shown at 6 p.m. The public is invited to see this film. The membership of the First Presbyterian church has been divided into 51 resident ial groups and will be engaged for the next four Wednesday evenings in meetings in neigh borhood homes for an hour of fellowship, prayer and Bible study. The study and discus sion will center around The Acts of the Apostles. Westminster Two identical Easter serv ices will be held Sunday at the Westminster Presbyterian church at 9:30 and 11 a.m. The Rev. John O. This Sunday only the church school will be held at 9:30 a.m. rather than the usual 9:45 a.m. The regular church school nursery for pre-school children will be conducted during the first hour and nursery care will be provided at the second service. A membership course for persons interested in joining the church will begin April 24. The course, which will be taught by the pastor, will meet Sundays at 5 p.m. and will last for six weeks. The Westminster Presby terian church is located on Oakwood dr. between Barne burg and Groveland aves. Adventist Students To Present Concert Students of Rogue River Junior academy will present a sacred program at the Val ley View Seventh-day Advent ist church Saturday, April 16, at 11 a.m. Included in the program will be vocal and Instrumen tal numbers and songs by the school choir as well as select ed readings. Bill Rea, teacher of the fifth and sixth grades, is program sponsor. He is as sisted by Mrs. Rea, soloist; Prince Baker, an upper grade teacher, and Mrs. Jim Na tions, third and fourth grade teacher. ' The group has already pre sented its program in the Ad ventist churches at Williams, Eagle Point and Ashland. Baptists Plan Early Service The observance of Easter will begin at First Baptist church, North Central ave. at Fifth St., with an early service at 8:30 a. m. The ordinance of the Lord's table will be the central part of this service. Regular Sunday school classes for all ages will begin at' 9:40 a. m. At the closing worship of the adult Sunday school, a service Jf child ded ication will be held. "The Value and Proof of the Resurrection" will be the subject of the message given by the Rev. James Neely, pastor, at the 11 a. m. wor ship service. Easter music will be provided by the adult choir under the leadership of Kenneth Raymond. "The Holy City" will be presented by the adult choir of the church Sunday at 7:45 p. m. Solo and vocal ensemble numbers, as well as full choir numbers from the oratorio, will be presented. Miss Diana Franklin is organist and Mr. Raymond, director. Members of the Medford church are invited by the Berean Baptist church, White City, to participate In their Easter sunrise service. Those desiring to attend are to meet at the Berean church, Crater Lake- Highway at 5:45 Music Program Set At Faith Advent A program of music, includ ing solos and duets, will be presented Easter morning at Faith Advent Christian church, 2460 Roberts rd. The Rev. G. E. Walston, min ister, will speak on "Christ's Resurrection, the Keystone of Salvation." The first part of Sunday's program will be at 9:45 a.m. with the children. Two Choirs Chancel, Youth Nursery and Child Care at First Methodist Church Speakers and Topics Told; Public Invited Sunrise Easter services are being planned by a number of the local churches. Several combined community services will also be held with the public Invited to attend any of the services. The annual Easter sunrise service will be held Sunday at 6 a.m. at Hueners Butte near Jacksonville sponsored by the Medford Interdenom inational Youth Council. Young people participating will include for the trumpet fanfare, Jim Lacy, First Presbyterian; Ray S m i t h. Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; and Mike Johnston, Central Church of Christ. Gary Brew, Unity Center of Medford, will give the call to worship, and Wayne Thompson, First Meth odist, will read the scripture. Dave Irving, Westminster Presbyterian, will lead the group in prayer, with Rita Miller, Medford Friends, giv ing the benediction. Speakers will be John Cas ter, First Christian, who will speak on "If Christ Had Not Risen" and Eric Ewaldsen, Zion Lutheran, whose topic will be "But Now Christ Is Risen." Music will be present ed by a group of young peo ple from the First Presby terian church. Signs will be posted both on btewart ave. and Jack sonville highway to direct early morning worshippers to Hueners Butte. Following the service break fasts will be served at First Presbyterian, First Christian and Medford Friends. Ascension Lutheran Early service will be held Easter at 6 a.m. at Ascension Lutheran church, 2501 Bar nett rd. The Rev. Elvin S. Tollefson, pastor, will speak on "The Right Hand of God." Organist will be Miss Diane Melum. Immediately follow ing the service, breakfast will be served in the youth build ing. Assembly of God The Christ Ambassadors from the Assembly of God entireties will hold sunrise service bunday at 5:30 a.m. on the north slope of Hueners Butte between Medford and Jacksonville. The Rev, Larry Haines, Phoenix, will speak. Berean Baptist The Berean Baptist church, White City, will hold Easter sunrise service at 6 a.m. Sun day on the Hoover property near Crater Lake highway. Those attending are to meet at the church at 5:45 a.m. Russell Carr, Medford, will speak and music will be in cluded in the service. The service is sponsored by the youth of the .church, accord ing to the Rev. Ray E. Nel son, pastor. Church of the Brethren The Medford Church of the Brethren will begin their ob servance of Easter with a sun rise service on the east side of Roxy Ann at 5:45 a.m. In case of unfavorable weather, the service will be held in the church sanctuary at the corner of Mary and Saling sts. Medford Friends A sunrise service will be conducted by the young peo ple of Medford Friends church at 5:30 a.m. on the hill at the J. W. Smith home, 3637 Old Stage rd Central Point. Stanley Perisho, for mer assistant pastor who is visiting here, will be the speaker. Following the serv ice, there will be a breakfast at the Dr. Alvin Roberts home on Taylor rd. for high school and college age young peo ple. Reorganised Church of Jetui Christ of Litter Day Saints Services will be held at 6:30 a.m. by the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Lat ter Day Saints on the hill above the Harley Davidson home, 1173 Vawter rd. The service will be conducted by the Zion League members of the church school. Following the service, breakfast will be served at the church annex. Ashland - An Easter sun rise service is planned for the Lithia Drive-in Theater for 6 a.m. Easter. It is being sponsored by the Men's club of Grace Lutheran church. Speaker for the service will be the Rev. Albert Nickode mus, pastor, who will speak on the topic, "The Contrast of the First Easter Celebra tion and That of Today." Brownsboro - Antelope, Lake Creek and Brownsboro will hold a combined sunrise Easter service at the Wool- folk Lake in Brownsboro Sun day.
