Maple said "There simply aren't enough folks who come in before 10 in the morning to make it profitable to .open at 8 o'clock as we have done for the past 50 years." The later hour also will give ex hibitors more time to polish up Jheir entries, he said. Admission gate closing time will be 11 p.m. Maple said the privilege of leaving the fairgrounds and then returning is being restor ed this year. Buyers continued to show interest in the issues outside those used to compile the averages. American Ship Building, which closed at a new high Tuesday, added 2 in the early trading. Republic firmed. Motors also lost ground but the declines were held to fractions. The Army said that the unit, a reenforced group from the elite 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, N.C., will be based at Okinawa and sup ported by a new mobile sup ply command. Seven crew members and five company personnel were on board the Seven Seas Co. plane bound from Newark, N.J., to Amsterdam. A port side engine failed a thousand miles off the Irish coast. TWO MINERS KILLED Jefferson City, Tenn.-ttJPD-Two miners were killed Tues day by a five-ton slab of rock that fell from the ceiling of a mine shaft 500 feet under ground near here. Spokesmen for the American Zinc Co. mine said Luther V. Wagner, 57, and Billy Tom Edmonds, 21, apparently jarred the 10- 1 foot slab loose while drilling on the ceiling with a pneu matic drill. Fleet Chief Force Felt's chief force in the Western Pacific is the big U.S. 7th Fleet, with about 60, 000 men and 125 ships includ ing five aircraft carriers. With that fleet and Army and Marine forces in Okin awa, military sources said, he is prepared to deal with limit ed aggression anywhere along the arc from Korea to South east Asia. . A heavy "punch is available from Strategic Air Command bombers, Air Force tactical elements under. Felt's com mand and Navy bombers aboard carriers. ' The Army currently has its Pacific ground forces concen trated in Korea. They are the 1st Cavalry and 7th Infantry divisions, the main elements of the U.S. 8th Army which is about 40,000 strong. Missiles on Okinawa On Okinawa, where the bat tle group will go, the Marines currently have two thirds of a division and the Army has Nike - Hercules anti - aircraft missiles which can fire either atomic or conventional war heads. It also is sending Hawk anti-aircraft missiles, design ed for defense against low level attacks, to Okinawa. Wherever reenf or cement of U.S. units was needed or as sistance might be ordered for allies in a brush fire war, the paratrooper outfit would be prepared to go on short no tice. Local Man's Oil In Bay Area Show A painting by Warren Wolf, 1517 South Ivy st., has been accepted for an art exhibit at Grace Episcopal cathedral, San Francisco, on the theme "Church Art Today." A jury of five men and , women screened the entries, which were from all parts of . the United States. Wolf's paintings an oil, is entitled "The False Prophets." The competition was open to paintings, sculpture, and works in textiles, mosaics and stained glass. It will be open April 3-May 1. Wolf, who is art instructor at Medford High school, did the painting last summer. The artist also has been invited to display his work in the first one-man show to be held in the new art gallery at Redding, Calif., and this ex hibit is open now. Insurance Commissioner .
