One Car Accident-A car op erated by Noelle Guber, 32, of 2895 Orchard Home dr., hit a mailbox post in front of 28 Chestnut st., yesterday about . 2:35 p. m., according to city .police. Police said the woman was apparently trying to assist her child who was in the car with her, when the vehicle went, off the road. Damage was minor and no citations were issued,, police said. Door Prizes Hill Grange the fun ATMOSPHERE gag Perl Davis, Last Pioneer Family Member, Dies Perl Davis, 83, last member of a pioneer Medford family and prominent in the develop ment of this area, died in a local' hospital yesterday after noon. He was born in Ottawa county, Kans., Oct. 8, 1876. His grandparents and parents came to the Medford area in. 1883, and for many years Mr. Davis was the highway con struction foreman from Cen tral Point to the California line. It was during this time that he . supervised . the construc tion of the first road over the Siskiyou mountains from Ashland, as well as many oth er road projects in the devel opment of the county. He became the house fore man of the old Stewart fruit packing company formerly in the location now occupied by Pinnacle. He and his brother, J. T. Davis, formed a partner ship and founded the present Davis transfer and storage company, which he owned and operated until his retirement shortly before 1955. For many years the family lived at. 145 South Grape st. He was married in Minne apolis, Kans., Dec. 11, 1895, to Elizabeth H. Crosby,' who preceded him' in death in Med ford March 11, 1955. His only immediate survivor is a daughter, Mrs. Fred Purdin, 335 Fairmont st. t Funeral services will be held at 11 ajn. Wednesday in Chapel Mortuary, followed by interment in the IOOF ceme tery. Hewitt, 86, of 217 Fourth st., Phoenix, died at his residence Thursday afternoon. Funeral arrange ments will be announced by Perl Funeral home. ELIZA T. KEENER Elza Lee Keener, 64, of 702 South Modoc ave., died this morning in a local, hospital. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Conger-Morris funeral directors. CALVIN V. WEST Funeral services for Calvin Valentine West, 77,' of 429 North Columbus ave., -who died Wednesday, will be held at 11 ajn. Saturday in the Chapel of Memories in Mem ory Gardens Memorial park. The Medford Masonic lodge No. 103, AF&AM, will offici ate. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial park. Chapel Mortuary is. in charge of funeral arrange ments. 1 Mr. West, the son of Charles A. and Millie Barr West, was born in Clinton, Mo., Feb. 14, 1883. He was married in Saint Francis, ; Kans., on Aug. 18, 1932, to Lenna Hill Hawley, who survives. Mr. West spent most of his life in farming in Rush county, Kansas, until his retirement. Police Continue Probe of Knifing Ashland - Ashland city po lice are continuing their in vestigation into a knifing in cident which occurred in Lithia park earlier this week involving a 15-year-old Ash land girl and a Medford woman. . ' No charges have yet been filed as a result of the inci dent, police said, although the girl is presently in protective custody at the county juve nile detention home. Mrs. Ruby Martindale, 31, of 424 Western ave., Med ford, sustained cuts on three fingers. She claims the girl attacked her with a knife, ac cording to police. However, the girl contends she knifed Mrs. Martindale only as an act of self-defense, after the woman had accosted her, police said. The Fox squirrel of south ern Ontario is the largest of all North American types of squirrels. Hawley, Medford, and Wil bur Hawley, Klamath Falls; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie All- bright, Calgary, Canada, and Mrs. Nona Allbright, Vancou ver, B. C; two grandchildren, and two greatgrandchildren. Wheeler Residents To Get TB Tests Portland (UPD - State health authorities said today all 2,650 residents of Wheeler county would be given a tuberculin skin test.- ' . They said the test was be ing given to seek persons who possibly were exposed to tu berculosis last year by a mill worker who was then un aware he had the disease. Health officials said that outside of the one case no TB had been detected in Wheeler county for the past five years. , They said tests would be given by a registered nurse now employed by the Wheel er county school system. It is the first mass test program of its type to be tried west of the Rocky mountains, board of health officials said.
