Three Jackson county women who cooperated with the American Mothers
ommittee last year in the committee's continuing program to "develop and
sVengthen the moral and spiritual foundation of the American home" are
shown here with Mrs. Harlan P.'Bosworth Jr. (left), Oregon Mother of the
Year for 1959. The three, honored at a recent tea given by Mrs. Bosworth
are (left to right), Mrs. W. W. Brawn, Medford,. Mrs. Grover T. Mulkey, Gold
Hill, and Mrs. William Jeffery, Medford. As retiring Mother of the Year, Mrs.
Bosworth becomes president of the Oregon Mothers' association and will
take that office in June.
Mrs. Leigh Gustison of Medford is president of the Oregon Con
gress of Parents and Jeachers and will preside over the annual
convention to be held here April 25-28. The organization Mrs.
Gustison heads is one of the largest in the state, with more than
100,000 members; more than a thousand are expected for the
convention. Mrs. Gustison is one of the Oregon delegates to the
Golden ""Anniversary White House Conference on Children and
Youth which opens in Washington, D. C, March 27. (Landis photo)

One of the newest hobby organizations for women in the city is the Grandmothers' Piano Duet club. The club
was started by Mrs. Francis Gregory, who wanted to play piano duets and having no friends interested . in
this recreation, placed an advertisement in The Mail Tribune. The club now has nine members, and meets in
the homes of members who have pianos. Two members, Mrs. Floyd C. Freeman (at left) and Mrs. Gregory arm

Mrs. Maxine (Paul R.) Smith, language teacher at Medford High school ended
her term as president of Oregon Education association at the group's annual
convention last week in Portland. Mrs. Smith was president of the Department
of Classroom Teachers before becoming OEA president and has served on many
committees and boards for both OEA and the National Education association. As
junior past OEA president, Mrs. Smith will continue to have many responsibilities
for the organization, and recently was named to the state-wide Colleges for
Oregon's Future committee.
Mrs. Hildred M. Zell, Wasco, Ore., a past president of the Oregon
Federation of Women's club, will be speaker for a convention of
First District of the Federation to be held in Medford Thursday,

Alpha Lambda, chapter, of Epsilon Sigma Alpha International sorority last week completed the addressing and mail
ing of letters and Easter Seals in Jackson county for the annual fund drive for the Oregon Society for Crippled Chil
dren and Adults. Mrs. Lyman Smith (at left) and Mrs. Robert Klumph are shown at. the Medford post office with part
of the 20,000 envelopes which went in the mail Wednesday. Mrs. Klumph and Mrs.". Robert Shangle are co-chairmen
this year for the mailing campaign. This is the 12th year that the chapter has participated in some phase of the
drive, and the fourth year members have conducted the complete county campaign.
