o O o Rescue Mission Workers Are Scheduled To Speak Sunday at First Methodist Two ministers who work with rescue missions will be the guest preachers at First Methodist church Sunday. The Rev. Alonzo Heath, su perintendent of the rescue mission in Bakersfield, Calif., will preach at the 9:30 a.m. worship service, and the Rev. C. M. Shaughnessy, superin tendent of the rescue mission in Tacoma, Wash., will preach at the 11 ajn. worship ser vice. These ministers will tell of the work of the rescue mis sion. Dr. George Roseberry will speak in Grants Pass at the Newman Methodist church THE REV. BOB HARLOW Session Speaker Association Plans Conference Here A leadership conference is to be held March 20 through April 1 in Medford and Cen trfl Point with 17 churches cooperating. The Rev.- Paul Krcon, chairman of the Rogue Valley Sunday School association, $tates that the primary pur pose of the conference is to provide helps for Sunday school teachers and church ly - workers i n achieving greater efficiency in their ministry. The Rev. Bob Harlow, pres ident of Global Aids Inc., Portlgnd, will be the speaker for the sessions to be held in the First Assembly of God Church, 1108 West Main st., Medford, snd the Community Bible church, J'ourth and Al der streets, Central Point. The meetings will be held each fceek night at 7:30 p.m., alternating between the two communities. !k.n trea-wide "kick-off" rally for the conference will be held, in the Tirst Assembly of G&d church, Medford, at 3 p.m., Sunday, March 20. There will be a nominal registration fee for the en tire trainiag course, and a free-will offering will be ac cepted for tht speaker at the close of th conference ses- sions. Party Honors New Hornbrook Minister Hornbrook - The Rev. and Mrs. W. C. (Bill) Ogden were given a welcome in the form of a "Pantry party" Saturday evening at the Hornbrook Methodist church. This was held in connection with the fourth quarterly con ference presided over by the district superintendent, the Rev. W. H. (Ben) Gould, Chico. Trustees elected or re elected for the ensuing year included Frank Ward, Frank Graves of Hilts, L. E. Jeter, Wayne Cummins, John Mac Kinnon and Glenn Robertson. Ivon Howard was elected to the finance committee. Other committee or commissions re mained essentially the same as last year. A covered dish dinner pre ceded the meeting.' Pre-Easter Sermons Planned by Friends "Remove This Cup" will be the theme of pastor Clynton Crisman's message at the Friends church Sunday in the 9:45 and 11 a.m. worship serv ices. The sermon is one of a pre-Easter series he is current ly preaching. At 9:45 a.m. the youth choir will sing, "I Am Praying for You," and at 11 a.m. the adult choir's anthem will be, "The Harbor of Home," with solo by Deane Roberts. The Sunday school is en deavoring to increase attend ance with a "Step Up to East er" campaign. Goals have been set for the next six Sundays with the aim of reaching 400 on Easter Day. The pastor is preaching a series of sermons on the 7:30 p.m. worship services on the seven churches of Revelation. This Sunday's topic will be, "The Church at Satan's Seat" im - iL ii..fc1n MIHMrtiajiim. Sunday. For the 9:30 a.m. service the young choir will sing, "Rejoice, the Lord Is King." and Howard Buckner, soloist, will sing, "How Beautiful Upon the Mountain." The chancel choir will sing, "Hide Not Thou Thy Face," at the 11 a.m. service and the Al tar choir will sing "Children of the Heavenly Father." A meeting of the pastoral relations and lay personnel will meet following the 11 a.m. service. They will meet in Dr. Roseberry's study. District Superintendent The E. J. Aschenbrenner, Eugene district superintend ent, will bring the message for the first Sunday Lenten service at 7:30 p.m. A re ception for Mr. and Mrs. As chenbrenner will follow at the close of the service. The Older Youth Fellow ship will participate in the progressive jazz worship ser vice at Wesley House on the Southern Oregon campus. Everyone is to meet at the church at 2:15 p.m. The Junior High MYF meet at 5:30 p.m. The pro gram for Sunday's service is "What Our Official Board Does." It is the first program in a series on the church and its work. The Senior High MYF meet at 7:30 p.m. "At Home With God" is the name of the program for Sunday by Dale Peterson. The nominating committee will meet Monday at 7:45 p.m. in Dr. Roseberry's study. On Tuesday the board of trustees will meet at 7 a.m. at the Town House Cafe, and the official board will meet at 7:45 p.m. Two Churches Tell Sunday Subjects Central Point - The Rev Robert Bridge will speak at the 11 a.m. worship service Sunday at First Presbyterian church on "The Seaond Touch." He will also conduct the Bible study at Westmins ter Fellowship at 7 p.m. Sun day. The Fellowship will meet at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Foote. A nursery is maintained for pre-school children during the morning worship. Jacksonville The Rev. King K. Jones, minister of First Presbyterian church, will speak Sunday on "Christ Has Set Us Free." Mrs. Rafe An ders will sing a solo "O Lord, Most Holy." Saturday at 12 noon the junior choir will meet for practice in the church. The choir is preparing to sing with the adult choir for the Easter service. At 7 p.m. Sunday the Jack sonville Westminster Fellow ship will meet at the church. It will be a "special feature" program. Final plans will be announced for the Shasta snow party to be held Mon day. March 14. Everyone who is signed up for this party should be at the meeting for final instructions. Thursday at 7:30 p.m. the Jur.ior High Fellowship will meet at the home of Alice Peterson on Huener Lane for a St. Patrick's Day party. Adventists Conduct Civil Defense Survey During the week of March 6 to 12 members of the local Seventh-day Adventist church es are participating in a Civil Defense survey. The survey was requested by the state Civil Defense of fice, in Salem. The Oregon Conference Adventists are conducting the survey throughout the state. Nearly 50,000 questionnaires are be ing filled out and returned to the Salem office to help deter mine the preparedness of the people in the state in case of an emergency. Special recognition will be given individuals who take from 25 to 100 surveys. This recognition will be issued by the director of Civil Defense for Oregon. UNITY TOPIC " . The Rev. I960 A Prayer Meetings Planned in April Central Point - Preparation will begin this week at Church of Christ, Third and Oak sts., with assignments for the church wide cottage pray er meeting to be held there April 1 through 17. Evangelist for the meetings will be Ralph Holcomb. Mr. Holcomb is professor of Bible at San Jose Bible church, San Jose, Calif., and was formerly the minister at the Central Christian church, Portland. The cottage prayer meeting plan will call all members of the church to prayer sessions several times a week in homes near where they live. Prayers for the needs of the church and the meeting will be em phasized. Each week for the next three weeks mass visita tion programs by members will be made on prospective church members. Sunday at 10:45 a.m. wor ship service topic will be "The Self Made Fool, Saul." Mr. Jean M. Shelley, minister, will also speak at 7:30 p.m. His topic wil be "The Unknown Road." Roseburg Approves Two School Issues Roseburg - (UPII - A school district 81,135,000 bond issue was voted in here Wednesday by a 99 vote margin. The vote was 1,764 yes, and 1,665 against. A second issue involved use of $200,000 received from the sale of the dam aged junior school. Voters consented to a building pro gram with the money by a vote of 2,069 for and 1,276 against. The alternative would have been to use the money for general funds. The school was heavily damaged in the truck explosion last August.
