Rescue Mission Workers
Are Scheduled To Speak
Sunday at First Methodist
Two ministers who work
with rescue missions will be
the guest preachers at First
Methodist church Sunday.
The Rev. Alonzo Heath, su
perintendent of the rescue
mission in Bakersfield, Calif.,
will preach at the 9:30 a.m.
worship service, and the Rev.
C. M. Shaughnessy, superin
tendent of the rescue mission
in Tacoma, Wash., will preach
at the 11 ajn. worship ser
vice. These ministers will tell
of the work of the rescue mis
sion. Dr. George Roseberry will
speak in Grants Pass at the
Newman Methodist church

Party Honors New
Hornbrook Minister
Hornbrook - The Rev. and
Mrs. W. C. (Bill) Ogden were
given a welcome in the form
of a "Pantry party" Saturday
evening at the Hornbrook
Methodist church.
This was held in connection
with the fourth quarterly con
ference presided over by the
district superintendent, the
Rev. W. H. (Ben) Gould,
Chico. Trustees elected or re
elected for the ensuing year
included Frank Ward, Frank
Graves of Hilts, L. E. Jeter,
Wayne Cummins, John Mac
Kinnon and Glenn Robertson.
Ivon Howard was elected to
the finance committee. Other
committee or commissions re
mained essentially the same
as last year.
A covered dish dinner pre
ceded the meeting.'
Pre-Easter Sermons
Planned by Friends
"Remove This Cup" will be
the theme of pastor Clynton
Crisman's message at the
Friends church Sunday in the
9:45 and 11 a.m. worship serv
ices. The sermon is one of a
pre-Easter series he is current
ly preaching.
At 9:45 a.m. the youth choir
will sing, "I Am Praying for
You," and at 11 a.m. the adult
choir's anthem will be, "The
Harbor of Home," with solo
by Deane Roberts.
The Sunday school is en
deavoring to increase attend
ance with a "Step Up to East
er" campaign. Goals have been
set for the next six Sundays
with the aim of reaching 400
on Easter Day.
The pastor is preaching a
series of sermons on the 7:30
p.m. worship services on the
seven churches of Revelation.
This Sunday's topic will be,
"The Church at Satan's Seat"

Adventists Conduct
Civil Defense Survey
During the week of March
6 to 12 members of the local
Seventh-day Adventist church
es are participating in a Civil
Defense survey.
The survey was requested
by the state Civil Defense of
fice, in Salem. The Oregon
Conference Adventists are
conducting the survey
throughout the state. Nearly
50,000 questionnaires are be
ing filled out and returned to
the Salem office to help deter
mine the preparedness of the
people in the state in case of
an emergency.
Special recognition will be
given individuals who take
from 25 to 100 surveys. This
recognition will be issued by
the director of Civil Defense
for Oregon.

Central Point - Preparation
will begin this week at
Church of Christ, Third and
Oak sts., with assignments for
the church wide cottage pray
er meeting to be held there
April 1 through 17. Evangelist
for the meetings will be Ralph
Holcomb.
Mr. Holcomb is professor
of Bible at San Jose Bible
church, San Jose, Calif., and
was formerly the minister at
the Central Christian church,
Portland.
The cottage prayer meeting
plan will call all members of
the church to prayer sessions
several times a week in homes
near where they live. Prayers
for the needs of the church
and the meeting will be em
phasized. Each week for the
next three weeks mass visita
tion programs by members
will be made on prospective
church members.
Sunday at 10:45 a.m. wor
ship service topic will be "The
Self Made Fool, Saul." Mr.
Jean M. Shelley, minister, will
also speak at 7:30 p.m. His
topic wil be "The Unknown
Road."
Roseburg Approves
Two School Issues
Roseburg - (UPII - A school
district 81,135,000 bond issue
was voted in here Wednesday
by a 99 vote margin. The vote
was 1,764 yes, and 1,665
against.
A second issue involved
use of $200,000 received
from the sale of the dam
aged junior school. Voters
consented to a building pro
gram with the money by a
vote of 2,069 for and 1,276
against.
The alternative would
have been to use the money
for general funds. The school
was heavily damaged in the
truck explosion last August.
