RUBBLE PROBED-U. S. servicemen probe the rubble of a toppled 10-story apartment building in the Talborg area of Agadir, Morocco, where some 300 persons were be lieved killed by earthquakes that ravaged the city this Studies Being Made On Traffic at East End of New Bridge Studies are being n.ade by the traffic engineering de partment to determine if a hazardous traffic condition exists at the east end of the Eighth st. bridge, City Engin eer Vernon Thorpe told the Medford city council Thurs day night. Councilman Ed Hall, Ward I, had asked Thorpe if there Is any thought toward prohi biting parking at all times on the south side of the section of Main st. to permit two lan es of eastbound traffic. Thorpe said the studies were instigated after several complaints were received by the city concerning the two lanes of traffic having to converge into one at the east end of the bridge. Parking is now prohibited from the bridge to Tripp st., between the hours of 4 pjn. and 6 p.m., and Thorpe said it would be possible to prohibit parking up to Tripp st. all day but not much farther due to the narrowness of Main st. after that intersection. Takes No Action The council received and took no action on a report from the state speed control board that a request by the city to have speeds reduced on North Pacific highway be tween Mace rd. and the state police office from the pres ent maximum speed limit of 50 miles per hour, be denied. The board said in the re port that its reasons were based on the fact that traffic accidents along this stretcth of highway are not frequent enough to warrant a reduc tion in the speed limit. A motion by Councilman Hall that the report be con tested and the board give the city a rehearing on the mat ter died for a lack of a sec ond. Rolla A. The council approved plans and specifications for paving Country Club dr. from Black Oak dr. to Sutter st., and for a grade line and curbs and gutters on the west side of Windsor ave., from Oak wood dr. to Woodlawn ave. Public hearings for paving Country Club dr. and for a water main on East McAn- drews rd. from Waverly ave. to a pcint 466 feet west of SDrinebrook rd. were called for April 7 and March 17, re spectively. An application for an extra width driveway from Harry and David Trailer Sales, 213 South Fir st was-approved, but action on a similar re quest from the Witham Parts and Equipment company, Riv erside ave. and Apple st., was postponed until the next meeting Because the latter extra-width driveway would necessitate the removal of three parking meters, the council felt further study is warranted. Following . last night's meeting, Seth Bullis, who has charge of the city's 75th charter anniversary which was celebrated on Feb. 24, showed those present several slides of how Medford looked in the early 1900s. Health Insurance Pioneer Succumbs Portland (UPD Funeral ar rangements are pending here for Dr. Chester C. Moore, 82, who pioneered prepaid health insurance in Oregon. He died Wednesday in Palm Springs, Calif. Charming Resort The hotel physically is about as charming a resort as exists in the Western Hemis phere, but the management had some exceedingly quaint pricing practices. Although the President spent only two nights at Llao Llao, some members of his party were confronted with bills for six nights. One high Washington official became slightly apoplectic when the management insisted he fork over money for six nights. An official of the Ameri can embassy in Buenos Aires tried to soothe the feelings of the Washington official by ex plaining that this was the cus tom in some Argentine hotels. Official Explodes Whereupon the official ex ploded "These people have taken foreign aid into their own hands." The eight American report ers permitted to stay at the Llao Llao were put up four men to a room and charged $120 per room for the two night stay. Many of the American par ty at the Llao Llao paid cash for their meals. Then, after they had settled their hotel bills, they learned that the cost of meals was included in the total room charge. The management, how ever, de clined to make any refunds. The injunc tion prohibited four union ized trucking firms from dis criminating against a non-union firm in Richmond. in all.
