Thurtday, March 3, I 960 A 911 Board Approves Bowling Alley At Blind School Sajem -(UPB- The Board of Control Wednesday afternoon gave the go-ahead for a bowl ing alley at the State School for the Blind here. Approved was an allocation of $7,000 from a trust fund for a building to house the bowl ing lanes. Semi-automatic pin setters and other equipment will be donated. Program Works Well Approval came after school officials said that bowling is a "good sport" for blind chil dren. They said that band students have been bowling for the past two years and the program has worked out "very well." The new building willv go up at the west end of the present school gym. The green light was given to architects to draw up plans for remodeling of buildings at the , Mid-Columbia home at The Dalles, and the board com mended administrator Glenn Howell for "the fine work you have done there so far." The Mid-Columbia home was formerly a State Tuber culosis hospital. Pay Raise Voted In other action the board approved a $180 annual pay raise for teachers at the State Deaf and Blind Schools; au thorized a start on a separate steam boiler unit to cook gar bage for hogs raised at the state prison farm, and ap proved after some discussion out-of-state travel for four of ficials of Fairview home, the the state hospital and Mid-Columbia home. irl Scouts Plan Display Members of Girl Scout Troop 114, Hedrick Junior High school, will have a win dow display at Sears Roe buck and company store March 4. Theme for the dis play is "Girl Scouts are Cre ative" and articles displayed have been made from scraps of material and odds and ends collected during the winter months. Girl Scouts who participa ted in the project are Pat Ac ord, Sandra Bayliss, Theressa Birman, Phyllis Elzea, Linda Jo Frederick, Donna King, JudjrMee, Bette Meyers and Sidney Snead. Their leaders are Mrs. Ruth Acord and Mrs. Maxine Meyers. Grange News Boxy Ann Many visitors from other Granges in the county and one from Marion county join ed the members of Roxy Ann Grange at the visitation meet ing on Feb. 19. Among them were Victor Croxton, state Grange lectur er, Sams Valley Grange; and masters of Sams Valley, Gold Hill, Live Oak, Phoenix, Grif fin Creek, and Central Point Granges. During the meeting an agri cultural report was given by Carl Quackenbush and Harry Martin. Roscoe Roberts re ported on Grange insurance. Dr. Elmo N. Stevenson, president of Southern Oregon college, spoke during the lec ture hour. The program also included a skit and songs by Mrs. James Reddington, : ac companied by Mrs. John Niss. It was announced thSt there will be a crab -feed at the Grange hall on March 20, starting at 12:30 p.m., to which the public is invited. Next regular meeting Is Friday, March 4. Central Point Central Point Grange will convene in regular session, Friday, March 4, at 8 p.m. Mrs. Homer Jeffries an nounces that the lecturer's program will be a showing of the "Covered Wagon Trek to Corvallis," by the 4-H club members of Jackson county last summer. David Foote and Patsy Charley will be in charge. - Recreation chairman Mrs. Gaston Floux and committee are making arrangements for a Candidate Night on March 25.
