FUT FARM OFMERICA FFA is an organization of, by and for boys who are studying vocational agriculture in the high schools of our nation. Future Farmers of America- chose the week of Washington's birthday each year for the observance of National FFA Week. Washing ton's first love was his farm. Mount Vernon. There he was one of the first in the nation to practice contour planting, crop rotations, fer tilization, and other soil conservation and im provement methods. Today, through the guid ance of the FFA, young men seek, like Wash ington, to do their very best to be trained, competent and foresighted. The purposes for which the FFA was formed are: (1) To develop able agricultural leader ship; (2) to nurture a love of country life; (3) to strengthen the confidence of young men in themselves and their work; (4) to create more interest in the intelligent choice of farming occupations; (5) to encourage members in the development of farming pro grams; (6) to encourage members to improve the farm home; (7) to participate in under takings for the improvement of agriculture; (8) to develop character, train for useful citizenship, and foster patriotism; (9) to par ticipate in cooperative work; (10) to encour age thrift; (11) to encourage scholarship; (12) to encourage the development of rural recreation.
