Carole Tregoff's Lawyer Suggests Finch Guilty Los Angeles - (UPD - Carole Tregoff's attorneys opened a possible escape hatch for the red-haired former model to day by suggesting her lover might have murdered his wife. In the first overt split in the defense in the trial of Dr. R. Bernard Finch, 42, and Miss Tregoff, 23, her attorneys indicated it was possible for a person to be at the scene of a crime yet innocent of any complicity. The startling tactic also in timated Carole is going to try to swim even if Bernie sinks for the killing of his wife, Mrs. Barbara Finch. Lawyers for the mistress of the surgeon resume their clos ing arguments today and it was expected they would fur ther disassociate their client from the man who says he still wants to marry her - "if she will have me." Prosecutor Clifford Crail had just completed a blister ing windup Wednesday when Miss Tregoff s lawyer, made his move. Crail said Finch had confessed his guilt by fleeing the death scene July 18.
