C. Bayne, San Diego, Calif., at a party Sunday afternoon, Feb ruary 14. The table centerpiece was a cake in the form of an open book with "Sylvia" written on one page and .tommy written on the other page. The cake was flanked by tall white tapers and white hearts. A -buffet supper, including the cake, was served to about 24 guests. No date for the wedding has been set. , Synthetic Fibers Studied by Unit "Know today's fabrics Learn generic fiber names" was the theme of the Foots Creek Home Extension" unit lesson presented by Mrs. Ed ward Parsons and Mrs. Glenn De Janvier at the- home of Mrs. Parsons February 17, ' Samples of natural fibers, cotton, linen, silk and wool were exhibited and different texture, finish and service ability of each explained. Sev eral items of clothing from members' homes were used to explain manufacturer's labels. Dresses with some of the new er fabrics were loaned by Schrec's Clothing store, Rogue River. . The ur's next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Harold Weed March 16. "Liv ing Within 24 Hours" will be the lesson. i lmwJI Contest Winners Announced - Rogue River-Kathy Thorpe, Rogue River grade school stu dent, won first prize in the recent essay contest sponsor ed at the school by the Rogue River Garden club. Margaret Angle won second prize and Beverly Haveman, third. The winning topic was "Litterbugs." Mrs. Harry An drews, junior conservation chairman, reported on the contest at a club meeting Feb ruary 16 at the Civic, club. Mrs. Harold Dunham, Mrs. Paul Hughes and Mrs. John Whiteman were hostesses. Mrs. Hughes spoke on "Voices of the Woods-Birds." Mrs. Harold Weed, chair man of the March of Dimes "kaffee klatches," reported that $22 was collected. Mrs. Earl Brooks was named chairman for the annual flow er show which will be held April 9 at Live Oak Grange hall. The club plans to have a luncheon bar instead of the customary tea. Among legislation the group voted to support is a law pre venting the killing of doves. Mrs. Harold Dunham will speak on primroses and the club will have a small flower show at the next meeting, to be March 15 at the home of Mrs. Sam Bellah. "Spring time" will be the theme. Grand Officer Inspects Bethel; Initiation Held Mrs. W. K. Suit, Medford1 grand guide of the Interna tional Order of Job's Daugh ters in Oregon, inspected Bethel 14 here at a meeting February 17 in the Masonic temple. She served as deputy for Mrs. Joe Rogers, Inde pendence, grand guardian, and was assisted by L. R. Man ning, Medford, vice associate grand guardian. Queen Mar ion Parsons presided at the ceremony of initiation for 14 girls. The new members are the Misses Daisy Johnson, Paula Potts, Diane Gilbert, Toni Einhouse, Linda Farmer, Lin da Blew, Linda Nelson, Kris- tine Mosher, Virginia Radke, Louella Stimson, Nancy Ma- tene, Page Meyerding, Diane Carmichael, and Janet Sher- rill. Princesses were Mrs, Gor don Mekvold, president of Gamma Xi, Central Point; Mrs. Howard Berg, Beta Up silon; Mrs. Edgar Moir, Xi Mu; Mrs. Ernest Flakus, Al pha Beta. The queen's selec tion was by chance. For the ball Mrs. Tengesdal wore a green print gown. Mrs. Flakus, who is also president of Alpha Beta chapter, wore a long gown of red ruffle tulle and lace. Mrs. Fred Wilson, Beta Upsilon's president, also wore red, her frock being of taffeta in bubble design. - Preceding the dance at the club, Mrs. Raymond Reter, sponsor of Beta Upsilon chap ter, gave a cocktail party at her home on Glen Oak court for chapter members, their husbands and guests. Bou quets of acacia, China lilies, red roses and other flowers decorated the rooms, and the refreshment table was deco rated with nosegays of violets and red roses.
