Dr. Jones fo Speak At Ashland YMCA Ashland - Dr. William C. Jones, dean of administration, ; nd acting president of the ! University of Oregon, will be . featured speaker at the Ash land YMCA annual dinner meeting, Thursday, Feb. 18, at i 6:30 p.m. in the Lincoln school : auditorium. During a business meeting, an election of new board members and officers will be held. A progress report of the ' Ashland YMCA operation i during the past year will be given. , EDUCATOR DIES Washington-UPD-Dr. Svend Laursen, 47, chairman of the department of economics at Brandeis University and a specialist on problems of in ternational trade in unde veloped areas, died here Thursday. - 4-H Club News 4-H Cooking Club Susan Cornutt was elected president of the 4-H cooking club at its recent meeting. Other officers elected are Linda Wilson, vice president; Marsha Wilson, secretary; E 1 i n Livingston, treasurer; D a i s e y Calhoun, reporter; Karyn Jantzer, historian; and Diane Davie, song leader. The name of our club will be decided at the next meet ing at Mrs. Dean Wilson's home, 1927 Taylor rd., Satur day, Feb. 20, at 11 a.m. Each member is supposed to bring name suggestions. Our first meeting was held at E 1 i n Livingston's home. Mrs. Lloyd Livingston and Mrs. James Cornutt are co- leaders. It was decided to have a party March 23 at the court house auditorium following the high school basketball games. Lake Tahoe was sug gested when plans for our summer trip were discussed. Norma Hogue was initiated into our club. The meeting was adjourned and refresh ments and games followed. We elected Linda Weit- man president. Cecilia Kee, Reporter Kniltin' Kittens The January meeting of the Knittin' Kittens 4-H club was called to order by Shirley Roach, president, Jan. 16. Seventeen members were present. Anne Bowling led the pledges. The role was called and the minutes read and ap proved. Colleen Franek re ported on the entertainment given at Mitchell's Sanitarium for Christmas. Late enrollment cards were collected. The club's mascot, a mechanical kitten knitting, was . presented. Judy Frink demonstrated how to wind yarn. Colleen Franek served refreshments. Neuberger Wants Device for Autos Washington - (UPD - Sen. Richard L. Neuberger said Saturday the automobile in dustry should equip all new car models with a new de vice that reduces unburned hydrocarbon in the exhaust. The Oregon Democrat noted that manufacturers said the device wQl be standard equip ment on all 1961 cars sold in California and will be offer ed as optional equipment for those sold elsewhere. . "Experts estimate that the device could be included on a new car at a cost of less than one dollar," Neuberger said in a statement.
