Proceeds from the program will be used towards the pur chasing of uniforms for tht Grants Pass chapter members and to help sponsor the fall trip of the Grants Pass High school band. ' (UPI Telephoto) 'Memories' Recalled in Recent Talk Memories of early days were recalled for members of the Jackson County Retired Teachers recently when Mrs. Gertrude Parker Holmes told of teaching days in Medford. She began at the "ld jun ior high school on Bartlett street mentioning Walter Keesee, mathematics teacher, and Mrs. Maybelle Klemme. At McLoughlin Junior High school she remembered Miss Marvel Yung, who taught her self to play the harmonica in order to have a harmonica band. In those days, Mrs. Holmes said, there was not a teacher for each and every activity. Teachers would take over and create their own desired pro grams. Mrs. Ruth McCollister wrote the plays, Miss Annette Gray produced them, and cos tumes were borrowed . from many people. All of this was over and above that which was required of them, the speaker said. One thing she did not men tion was her own contribu tion. Mrs. Bernice Kunzman supplied the information that Mrs. Holmes had a "good manners" class with as many as 120 attending, for an ex tra curricular activity. Following the "memories" program Mrs. Holmes con ducted a "baseball" history game. It had been a device to make history fun for her pupils. Miss Elizabeth Burr was in charge of the tea which fol lowed. The table setting in cluded a small marble bust of Lincoln, a miniature framed portrait of Washington, and a bouquet of little flags. Miss Burr's heirloom silver service was used. Past Matrons Club Announces Luncheon Central Point-A luncheon has been planned by Nevita Past Matrons club for 1:30 pjn. Wednesday, February 17, at North's Chuck Wagon. A business meeting will fol low. All past matrons are invited. Beauticians Help Drive Medford Beauticians' asso ciation held a dinner meeting Monday evening which open ed the annual observance here of National Beauty Salon week. Outstanding among the dec orations was a large red satin heart and during the evening the guests were asked to pin money on the heart, with the money going to the campaign now in progress for the Jack son county heart fund. Later the heart was taken to Mann's Department store and displayed with a sign which read "Help the beauti cians help the heart fund." Installation of new officers was held during the evening. The retiring president, Mrs. Ruth Hagoes, .was presented an orchid corsage. Installed were Mrs. Peggy Lewellyn, president; Mrs. Myrtle Stock- Openings in Civil Service Announced Openings for a number of positions in the federal gov e m m e n t have been an nounced by the civil service commission. Lodge to Honor 30-Year Members Gold Hill Members of Amethyst Rebekah lodge, who ,have belonged to the orgah jization for 30 years or more will be honored Wednesday, February 17 at 8 pjn. in thej Odd Fellows hall on Fourth avenue. At this time charter night will be observed. The lodge was instituted 62 years ago February 14, 1898. Plans for the anniversary celebration were made at a meeting of the lodge February 3 with Mrs. Daniel Stewart, noble grand, presiding. . Mrs. Paul Molloy was nam ed program chairman for the special event. Three trustees were elect ed. They include Mrs. Lester Parker, 3-year term; Mrs. J.
