(g(3)c Boat Makers Turn To Use of Wheels For Convenience Chicago-iUPD-Several boat ing manufacturers have tak en a page from the airplane industry in designing and equippnng their products thii year. Several propeller driven craft, steered by a "stick." and others with retractable wheels for convenient over land transportation were fea tured at the 27th annual Chi cago National Boat Show which ends Feb. 14. Designed for Marshes One of these, the Airboy Cub, made by Airboats Inc., St. Louis, Mo., is designed for use on shallow rivers and lakes, weed-infested water and marshes. The boat, which can operate in water one inch deep, also can be used on ice for winter fishing and hunting. The Cub is made of alumi num and powered by a pro peller mounted high in the rear. The aircraft-type stick steering mechanism can be operated with the knees, the exhibitor said, so that the hands are free for casting, fly fishing and trolling. Retractable wheels are found on several houseboats and a land and water marine cruiser made by the Marine Division of Trail-It Coach Manufacturing Co. Inc., Des Moines, Iowa. Retractable Wheels The boat, measuring 281,i feet, is equipped with heavy duty retractable wheels, elec tric brakes and a detachable tongue for towing, eliminat ing the use of a trailer. It also can be used as a house trailer on land. The craft sleeps six, has a fully equipped galley and sun deck. It is run by outboard motors. Radio Man's Office Wired for Noise Farmingdale, N. Y.-Heard of a room being wired for sound? There's one at Repub lic Aviation Corp. here that's wired for noise.
