MEDFORDsJiiTlUBUNE MEDFORD. OREGON, SUNDAY, JANUARY 24, 1960 Music and Art Among those working on organization of the new Rogue Valley Art association are Mrs. Fred C. lorish and Ben Day. Mrs. Lorish is secretary of the association, and Mr. Day heads the committee which drafted' articles of incorporation, a constitution and by-laws. The new civic association was formed to "promote and provide for the study, development, exhi bition and appreciation of art" in the Rogue Valley. Adamson, 839 East Jackson street, were among the southern Oregon residents who served as patrons for a performance of "Elijah" given last Sunday afternoon by the Philharmonic Society of Southern Oregon. Patrons, who bought tickets at an addtiional price in order to provide needed financial support for the Philharmonic, were seated in a reserved section of the auditorium. Mrs. Adamson, a professional musician, and her husband attend many of the valley's musical events. (Knackstedt photo.) George Peckham (center) who sang the title role in "Elijah" last Sunday, is shown greeting his long-time friends, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph C. Burgess, Ashland. The friendship dates back to the time that Mr. Peckham lived in Medford, as did Mr. and Mrs. Burgess, and the singer was beginning his career in music. (Knackstedt photo.) ' : P'v AJ Mr. and Mrs. Fred Konschot were among the large number of southern Oregon couples who served os patrons for last Sunday's presentation of the oratorio, "Elijah", given by the Philharmonic Society of Southern Oregon. The performance was well attended and enthusiastically received. The Konschots are pictured here in the liv ing room of their home on Crown avenue. James Ragland, membership chairman of the Rogue Valley Art association, recently welcomed two Medford teachers as members of the new group. They are Miss Sandra Lien (at left), teacher of English at McLoughlin Junior High school, and Miss Janeth Eiiiott, who teaches arts and crafts at Hedrick Junior High school. Membership in the new association is directed towards the layman, as well as both amateur and professional artists, anyone who is interested in and will help to support exhibitions of the visual arts. Persons wishing to become members may contact either Mr. Rag land or Mrs. Fred C. Lorish.
