HS Russia Permits Family of U.S. Man To Leave Moscow -flJTO- Soviet offi cials have authorized the wife and son of Cleveland resident John Armonas to leave the U.S.S.R. and join him after a 19-year separa tion, it was learned Thursday. The Christmas Eve news came less than a week after Soviet approval for two Lith uanian youths to leave the country to be reunited with their American parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paulius Leonas, Chicago. Both actions are the re sult of appeals made to Pre mier Nikita Khrushchev per sonally, but the Armonas ap peal had additional support from Pennsylvania Gov. David L. Lawrence and a Cleveland newspaper, the Cleveland Press. Premier Promised Donna Armonas, 24, ap proached the premier during a luncheon in Pittsburgh where he promsied to make it possible for her mother, Barbara, 54, and brother, John, 19, to leave their home in Pasbilys, Lithuania. The family was split up in 1940 when Donna and her father were evacuated as American citizens. But the mother and son did not have American citi zenship and have not been able to leave the country. Armonas and his family had hoped to be reunited by Christmas, but formalities will take some weeks. In the case of the Leonas family, the Soviets granted exit visas to the two boys, Ginas, 20, and Tomas, 17, and their case is in the hands of the U.S. Embassy here. Edmund DeWitt of Mid dlesboro pulled the job armed only with a safety pin. He de clined a policeman's offer of a knife.
