GOLD HILL Programs Planned Br MRS. CLYDE KELL. Gold Hill Pupils of the Hanby and Patrick schools of district 6C will present their Christmas program at the Hanby school gymnasium at 7:30 pjn. Tuesday. - Santa will distribute treats to the youngster following the program. The project is sponsored by the Gold Hill PTA. Those working on the committee this year include Mr. and Mrs. Joe Estremado, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Foley and Mr. and Mrs. Rolen Rose crans. Mrs. Leonard McMa- han, vice president of the unit, will assist the group, j The community Christmas program, sponsored each year by the Amethyst Rebekah and Odd Fellows lodges here will be held Wednesday at 8 pjn.. in the IOOF hall on Fourth ave. Children .'who wish to take part in the pro gram are, requested to tele phone her UL 5-1125 prior to Wednesday evening if pos sible. - Youngsters will have an op portunity to visit with and receive treats from Santa aft er the program. . Residents within the city limits of Gold Hill have been urged to participate in the lighting contest, sponsored by the local Lions club to pro mote the Christmas spirit as well as to beautify the com munity during the holiday season. Cash prizes will be award ed winners of the contest. Complete details will be an nounced later. The third program, sched uled for Sunday, Dec. 27 at 7:30 p.m., will consist of a discussion of the Rogue Ram blers with Denny Samples and Leon Sherman participat ing. The fourth program, set for the first Sunday in Jan uary at 7:30 pjn. will be, on the topic of parlimentary pro cedure with Donald Deming, Pete Melsted and Delmar Smith taking part in the dis cussion. The fifth, on public speaking, will be presented by Donald Deming and Pete Melstead, Sunday, Jan. 10 at 7:30 pjn. Several servicemen were reunited with former school mates when all arrived home to visit relatives prior to the Christmas holidays. Arriving home to spend 14 day leaves with their parents were Curtis J. Payne, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Payne, and James McKibbon, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. N. McKibbon. These young men recently completed Navy recruit train ing at the naval base in San Diego. Another Navyman, Donald Kell is spending a 30-day leave with his father, Howard Kell, and other relatives here and in Medford. He recently returned to the U.S. from Midway where he had been on duty several months. While on Midway, Donald received from the state department of education a certificate which is equivalent to a high, school diploma. A member of the Air Force, Glen Taylor, son of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Taylor, has been a guest of his parents while spending a 30-day leave in Gold Hill. Mrs. Relyea is the form er June Berg. Recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Cooper were her sister, Mrs. Dick Rossi, Coos Bay and son, Gary, a fresh man at Oregon State college. He was awarded an athletic scholarship to attend college and is a member of the OSC basketball team this year. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ford and three youngsters, Clarks, Ore., were visitors at the home of the Rev. and Mrs. O. L. Kendall en route to Georgia for a 2-months vacation. Mrs. W. G. Tasker, Mid way City, Calif., returned to her home recently after a two weeks' visit at the home of her brother-in-law and sis ter, Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Ko-fahal. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Whit- lock and granddaughter, Pa mela Barlow, Medford, were dinner guests at the home of Mrs. Whitlock's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Quinn, rec ently. Calling later in the day were Mr. and Mrs. William Barlow and son Michael. Wil liam Barlow recently return ed to Medford after nearly two years on duty with the Army in Ludwigsberg, Germany. Charles Bruce returned home recently after a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Carl Nor man in Santa Rosa, Calif. Mrs. Lee Malone was host ess for a layette shower hon oring Mrs. Richard Genaw. Co-hostesses were Mrs. Leon Guss, Medford and Mrs. John Genaw, Gold Hill. Guests were Mrs. Stanley Newnham, Mrs. Bob Gray, Mrs. Iva Lentz, Mrs. Hank Robertson, Gold Hill, and Mrs. Ronald Guss and Miss Rhonda and Miss Genine Guss, all of Medford. GRAND CHAMP "Black Jewel," 1035-pound grand champion steer, brought $22,356 in auction at the International Livestock show in Chicago, 111. The steer was purchased by Howard Johnson Jr., president of Howard Johnson Restaurants. Holding steer is Ray Maass, 21, who raised "Black Jewel." Natural Resources Group Sets Meets Salem -DPD- The Legislat ive Interim committee on Na tural Resources announced Saturday that it would hold a series of meetings in south west Oregon late next month. Sen. Andrew J. Naterlin (D-Newport), chairman, said the sessions would be in Eu gene Jan. 21: Grants Jan. 22; Gold Beach Jan. 21 and Coquille Jan. 23 In th evening. He said the meetings were to give a chance for presenta tion of views on the organiza tional structure of state agen cies and the use of local resources-water, florests, soil, minerals and wildlife.
