Open Houses Slated In County Schools In National Week Many schools in Jackson county will bold open houses this week in observance of American Education Week. A back-to-school night is scheduled for parents of Med ' ford High school sophomores Tuesday, Nov. 10, and open houses are scheduled in Dis trict 6C schools and in many elementary schools in the "Medford district. American Education Week is a special week of empha sis during which residents should reevaluate the impor , tance of the schools in today's world, according to Cecil Posey, executive secretary of the Oregon Education asso ciation. "Parents of sophomores at Medford High school will fol low student class schedules Tuesday evening. Registration for parents who do not have schedules made out By their child will be held in the low er hall starting at 7 p.m. Program Scheduled A program will be present ed by the high school orches tra and drama departments starting at 7:15 pjn. John Drysdale will direct the orchestra, and Lenore Zapell will direct a scene from "Dino,". the all-school play which is now being re hearsed. Following the program, parents will attend 10-minute classes, during which teachers will explain course content and procedures. A social re freshment hour in the cafe teria will follow the class room schedule. " Parents are invited to visit their children's classroom dur ing the week between 9 ajn. and 3 pjn. in District 6C, which includes Crater High school in Central Point, Cen tral Point, Gold Hill, and Sams Valley schools. School officials have en couraged parents to visit the schools to increase their awareness of the' important role education plays in the country, and to help realize that good schools are a respon sibility of each person.. Purposes of Week District 6C administrators pointed out that the purposes of American Education Week is to increase understanding and appreciation, to explain the curriculum, current teach ing methods and materials, to increase pupil appreciation of the school, to reveal school problems and needs, and to strengthen the bonds of coop eration between the school and the community. Open house for patrons of Griffin Creek -school will be held Nov.-12, and parents are urged to visit the classrooms between 7:30 and 8:30 ajn. Teachers will survey the year's work in each grade and classroom work complet ed so far this year will be dis played." First grade teachers previously held open house for parents of children, but they will be available Thurs day evening for consultation, school officials said. - Refreshments will be serv ed in the cafeteria at 8:30 pjn. by the first grade mothers. - About 65 per cent of Wy oming's population' gains its living directly or indirectly frpm farms and ranches. ; Eagles Plan Drive For Manila House A fund campaign to sup port a youth training center in the Philippines is being prepared by the Crater Lake Aerie, Fraternal Order of Eagles, according to Jack Sat terlee, president. Satterlee said an "Eagle House" is being ! established in Manila to instruct Philip pine young people in essen tial vocational trades. Sup port will be from local Eagles as part of a nation wide campaign. . . The idea is an expansion of the "Eagle House" system undertaken with the aid of CARE which now operates centers for adolescent needy in Berlin, Germany, and in Naples and Catania, Italy, Satterlee said. . The Manila , house will use an initial $10,000 for training equipment and hand tools. Classes will be" given in woodworking, electronics, me chanics, metal craft and other basic skills.
