PENNEY'S STREET FLOOR Neuberger, Porter Say Oregon May Not Get Seashore Park Editor's note: Following is a joint statement issued by Sen. Richard L. Neuberger (D-Ore.) and Sep. Charles O. Porter (D-Ore.) on the status of the Oregon Dunes Nation al Seashore park proposal. We believe It is only fair to warn the people of our state ' that, there is a very grave likelihood that, while seacoast National Parks may be established in other states, none will be created at Ore gon Dunes. Thii disturbing possibility is due directly to the wide Mrs. Broolcwoll Attends Child Guidance Meeting Mrs. Virginia Brookwell, of Southern Oregon Child Guid ance Clinic attended the an nual Oregon child guidance meeting in Portland last week. Theme for the annual meet ing of clinic social workers, psychologists and psychia trists was "delineation of dif ferentiation of the clinician and consultant role in mental health programs in Oregon." Among features of the two day conference was a report by a committee appointed to study the needs of child care. Dr. Norman Janzer, psy chologist, gave the viewpoint of a psychologist on consulta tion furnished such protective agencies as the various county juvenile departments. Caseworker Supervisor Joseph Thyman, casework supervisor for the Portland juvenile court spoke on what is expected from consultation by child guidance clinics. Thursday, all clinic social workers held aquarterly meeting to discuss' problems they experienced in work. A major discussion topic was problems encountered while working with low income families. The group, discussed problems in working with so cially and economically de prived patients. The group discussed the role of the social worker and aasjg CORNER 4TH AND FRONT PLENTY OF FREE PARKING Store Hours - Daily 8:30 A.M. to 8 P.M. - Sundays 9 A.M. to 7 PM. ROUND OR SIRLOIN . Con gress is likely to authorize such parks where they are wanted and not where they are violently opposed. Visited Hatfiold Twice Senator Neuberger has visited Governor Hatfield recently and been assured by the Governor that Senator Neuberger's modified version of the park bill would receive a fair and impartial study by the Governor's State Natural Resources Committee, which how that role is best carried out. While in Portland, Mrs. Brookwell and other clinic social workers consulted with Mrs. Minnie Waterman, psy chiatric casework consultant, state board of health. Medford Man Pleads Guilty in Court William Glomb, 341 Black Oak dr., Medford, pleaded guilty in district court Mon day to charges of making a false statement in writing. Imposition of sentence was suspended for six months and Glomb was placed on proba tion providing he pay court costs and commit no further unlawful acts. Glomb was charged with is suing a bad check for $57 in Phoenix June 12, according to district court records. Poice Have Lfffe Trouble Finding Coat Danbury, Conn.-Mrs. Shir ley Glass reported to police that her $2,600 mink coat was stolen. ' Detective Harley Morrison investigated and found no sign of forcible entry at her home, but, looking under a bed, he saw her pet cocker spaniel curled up on the coat ITEM Tender as Your Butcher's Heart STEERS AT JRCli 39' 89' lb. Limit Right Reserved originally opposed the park, , Despite these assurance from the Governor, the execu tive secretary of the Gover nor's committee, Mr. Dan P. Allen, published a letter in the Oregon Sunday Journal of November 1, in which Mrl Allen described the Oregon Dunes park as "an Ill-advised and poorly-timed, etc. etc..'." It should be kept In mind that Mr. Allen Issued this abusive blast against the park and its sponsors after Gover nor Hatfield had promised both of us that the modified bill would enjoy a fair and impartial study from the com mittee which . Dan P. Allen serves as executive secretary. We leave it to the people of our state if Mr. Allen's com ments of November 1 evi dence that kind of study. Furthermore, another highly-placed Oregon political fig ure, " Ervin L. Peterson ot North Bend, who serves as Assistant Secretary of Agri culture, nas tow the press that he is unalterably opposed to the Oregon Dunes Seashore Park, although he does sup port an administration bill for three seacoast parks else where in the nation. Believe Park Deserved 4 - We are working hard and long for this seashore park because we believe Oregon's scenic assets deserve it. But many other states are seeking parks for their shorelines of lesser beauty, and In those states there are not such highly-placed public officials so hostile to national park de velopment. It is not unrea sonable for Congress to, create national porks in areas con genial to such project. The present situation is all the more distressing because leaders of the National Park Service have declared that Oregon's magnificent shore line qualifies admirably for a great seacoast park. Would that many Qregonians had this loyalty to their own state! We are discouraged but we agree with ex-G o v e r n o r Charles A. Sprague, one of Oregon's greatest editors, who has written that, If Oregon does not get this park, the people will know exactly who killed Cock Robin. , C LB. 0 LOCKER BEEF FANCY FED STEERS - Whole or Half , 47c Hind Quarters E5s Front Quarters . 30c CUT TO TOUR CDECI SPECIFICATIONS litCi CHEDDAR CHEESE WESTERN MILD 39 $ 4 00 Lumberjack Syrup Nalley's 29' Each t IB
