(Jessie) Friend, president' of district 13 American Legion auxiliary, Mrs. ' Clifford Connors and M. C. McElhiney, commander of the Medford Post 15, left Saturday for Portland where they attended the executive committee meeting of the American Legion today. Cub Scout Pack 20 will hold its regular meeting Fri day, Oct. 30, at the Kerby School cafeteria at 7:30 p.m. All cubs and their parents are asked to attend. Sponsors of Cub Pack 20 is the Kerby PTA. Visiting at the A. K. Smith home on the West Side rd. last week end were Dr. and Mrs. Kenneth B. Smith and granddaughter, Nadine, and grandson, Arthur. Arthur is attending Pacific Union col lege near St. Helena in nortli ern California. Linda Prather, Sandy Piper, Beverly Sewell and Mrs. Al ton Sewell attended Friend ship night at Bethel 14 in Medford Wednesday. Una Mae Maxon, a resident of Kerby for 10 years but recently of Portland, died Oct. 4. She is survived by two daughters, Johanna, at home, and Mrs. Irene Chrissie of Crescent City; three sons, Louie, Earnest and Ted; sis ters Irene George of Cave Junction, Anna Taylor of Medford, Mildred Baker of i,os Angeles, Calif., and Iona Brecksen of Portland; one brother, Glenn Heath of Mount View, Calif. Funeral aervkxe were held in Port land and burial was in the Hillcrest cemetery. Episcopal Guild met Wed nesday at the church' for another work day In prepar ation for its bazaar in Novem ber.. Members present and guest, Mary Anna Adams, had a sack lunch at noon. The next meeting will be Oct. 28. Regular meetings of dshe Guild are the first Wed nesday of each, month. Mrs. Don Fulk and Mrs. Will Benjamin left Saturday by horseback for the mouth f the east fork of the Illinois river where they stayed all night. - :- - - - The Cave Junction Com munity church Missionary Group met at the parsonage Wednesday. Seven members were present. Subjects to be discussed and studied at the meetings for the next lew months will be different kinds of prayer, and when and how to pray. A letter from Julia Supple, missionary in Ixtapa Caiapas in Mexico told of the hard ships of living among mos quitos, ants, roaches, rats, wild aiimals and many unnamed btfgs, before an airlift came to.tBeir rescue and dropped nnn to rid them of the bugs, traps to catJi the rats 'and fences to shut out the wild hogs and other animals. Missionary meetings are the first and third Wednesdays of each month. The ladies were reminded of the $1 party as tJ e church Monday, Oct 26. A missionary rally will be hejd at Eagle Point Tuesday, Nov. 3. Groups will assemble at the church for transpor tatien. . Mr. and Mrs. Bill Brandt, of Daly City, Calif., now visit ing in Newport were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Bethel on the Caves highway this week end. Mr. and Mrs. Bethel recently purchased the home belonging to Mrs. Valeria Rauber. The Illinois Valley Cham ber of Commerce has com pleted mailing over 800 let ters to people who registered at the Centennial booth this past summer. Literature en closed called their attention to recreation possibilities as well as fashing, hunting, cli mate and future homes. Mrs. Robert BettelL Mrs. Don Orton, Mrs. Harold Crowl, Mrs. Clarence Hag gard and Mrs. Thrush, attend ed the meeting of the Grants Pass Toastmistress club Tues tiay. Topic mistress was Mrs. Bob Rausch, now living near Rogue River. She chose pages from newspapers from which each member present had to choose articles at random that represented sadness, anger and humor and read these in the manner indicated. Mrs. Don Orton, a new member, gave her autobiogra phy. Refreshments of home made cookies and coffee were served by the hostesses. The American Legion aux iliary, Cave Junction, held its regular social night meeting in the Legion auxiliary rooms Wednesday. President Mar garet Crowl presided. - Purchasing of table service and new card tables was tabled until the regular busi ness meeting on Nov. 4. Mrs. Edith Hays, music chairman, presented Mrs. Lu cille Arnold at her electric organ who sang "Ave Maria," the Legion auxiliary song of the month. Guests from Grants Pass were introduced, Mrs. W. C. Friend, district 13 president, and Mrs. Clifford Connors, wife of the district 13 vf?e commander. Many visitors from the val ley were present to see pic tures shown by Mrs. Dave Wilson, of her trip to Europe last summer. Cisco Kid Plans to Change His Name Ventura, Calif. -CPD-Duncan Renaldo, the Cisco Kid of television is having his name officially changed to avoid confusion. His real name is Renault Duncan. He told Superior court Monday he had been known as Renaldo for 15 years and to avoid confusion would like that to become his official name. The court has taken no action on he petition. United Nations, N.Y.-OJPD-Russia expressed readiness to day to study all proposals for disarmament and said it agreed to. step by step con trols over any arms reduction agreement.
