Borrowing Plan Gets PUC Approval Salem-flJPD-The Public Util ity commission Tuesday ap proved a "standby" borrow ing arrangement between the Or eg on-Washington Tele phone company and United Utilities, an affiliated firm. . OTI Officials Visit SOC Campus Ashland Administration and faculty members from Oregon Technical Institute, Klamath Falls; attended a meeting at Southern Oregon college Monday for a program intended to familiarize them with the role of OTI as a new member of the Oregon state system of higher education. Dr. Elmo N. Stevenson, SOC president, addressed the group on the functions and organization of a combination professional school and col lege of arts and science, stressing the philosophy, aims and purposes of the college not only as an autonomous entity, but also as a part of the state system. Discussing the board of higher education, Dr. Steven son explained how it was ap pointed, its composition, and its primary areas of concern. He also pointed out the duties of the chancellor in relation ship to the board, and the re lationship of the institutional executives to both.. Conducted "as a field trip for members of general exten sion classes being taught week ly on the OTT campus by Dr. J. Kenneth Munford, Oregon State college director of pub lications, the evening ended with a tour of the SOC campus under the guidance of Dr. Guidance Clinic Receives Funds From UMC Drive (Editor's note: This is an other in a series of articles in which agencies of the United Medford Crusade are discussed. Today's arti cle reviews some of the work of the Southern Ore gon Child Guidance Clinic.) Happiness should be part of every ..person's life. Some people are able to find happi ness themselves, but a few children and parents need guidance to find their way to happiness. "Mary Jones," a junior high student, has come to the Southern Oregon Child Guid ance Clinic to meet with sev eral other girls her age. After six or seven weekly sessions with a psychiatrist to guide them, Mary and the other girls are beginning to under stand their feelings and their behavior. Understanding herself is a first step up the ladder of hap piness for Mary. Her parents and family, her friends and community, also, find greater happiness when Mary is a happier, better adjusted per son. Supports Services - The Southern Oregon Child Guidance Clinic is a member agency of the United Medford Crusade which gives support to many services to make a happy community in which to live. Mary is one of the almost 500 children served at the Southern Oregon Child Guid ance Clinic in the six years since its establishment in Oc tober, 1953. Through support of the United Medford Crusade, the clinic can provide this kind of help to the community through child guidance. Car Wash Company To Open in City 1 The B and P Car Wash, 617 South Riverside ave., Med ford, will have its grand open ing Friday and Saturday, Oct. 22 and 23. Owners Veryl L. Biggins and Julius H. Peters have announced. They said it will be the first automatic car wash operation in southern Oregon Features include automatic tire wash ers, complete vacuum of in terior, rinse ' and automatic blow dryer. A special bug chemical will be used in wash ing grilles and hoods, they said. During the first two days, cars will be washed for 50 cents less than the regular price. Included in the building is a snack bar and lounge for the convenience of customers. MAC EXPRESSES REGRET Colombo, Ceylon - (UPD -Minster Harold Macmillan has expressed regret to Premier W. Dehanayake over a po liticals commentary broadcast by the "British Broadcasting Corp. which said among other things that Ceylon was "led by an inexperienced eccen tric," it was reported today. Dahanayake protested to Mac millan at the broadcast made on Oct. 9. -, A GRAVE INCIDENT New York tUPIl A baby born to Mrs. Lottie Graves Tuesday night will be able to say when grown that he was born on the sidewalks of New York. Mrs. Graves left her ho tel on Broadway for the hospi tal, but the elevator gave a lurch as it stopped at the lob by. The baby was delivered on the hotel stoop by an am bulance doctor because that was as far as Mrs. Graves got. AUSTRIAN ACTOR DIES Vienna -flJPD- Austrian ac tor Warner Krauss died Tues day following a long illness. Krauss, 75, had been a mem ber of the Vienna Burgthea ter since 1948.
