9 uin coming in Area Serves Girls Through Age 17 Editor's nolt: This It another in series of ar ticles in which agencies of the United Mediord Cru sade are discussed. Today's article discusses Iho Girl Scout program in this area.) The Rogue Valley Girl Jcout Council, one of the or ganizations benefiting from the United Mediord Crusade, always welcomes new Scouts and leaders to its ranks. Girl Scouting serves girls from the ages of seven through 17 with - program di vided into three age groups. Brownie Scouts are seven to 10 years of age, Intermediate Scouts from 10 to 14, and Sen iors from 14 through 17. This division offers the best in ac tivity and service for each age group, with programs geared to fit - interest and needs. D The Brownie Scout program is centered about teaching girl IU UJ-jr wuvma mj plan and carry out them selves. The early phase of , Scouting teaches girls that the pleasure of doing is the re ward of doing. This fall Brownie Revel, a day of fun and activity for Brownies from all over the area, will help the younger girls become better acquaint ed with Scouting activities. As throughout the world, the program for Brownies in our area is basically concerned with selfless service to home and family. Added Incentive lntermeaiaie acorns c o n tinue in the self-planning and production of activities, with the. added incentive of the Girl Scout proficiency badges. The proficiency badges are symbols of Jobs well done, given in fields from "outdoor ckery" to "group musician." The knowledge of a badge as a symbol is always retained, the activity being stressed as the important aspect of Scout lng. A charm school to bt held for" firls "m ,ixth through the eighth grades, will encourage Intermediate Scouts of the area to be more careful of their personal ap pearance, their health, and to become more graceful on all occasions. During the course of the charm school, the girls will work toward proficiency1 in hostessing and other wom anly arts for which they may earn badges. Senior Scouting in the Council is primarily con cerned with service to the Scout and the community. While offering aid to the busi ness and public service peo ple in the town, the teenage Scout has opportunities to pursue vocational fields of her choice. - - In aiding younger Scouts, giving time in business of fices, volunteering work in hospitals, learning about Ci vil Defenes and preparing themselves in first aid. Scouts are widening their .horizons and serving their communi ties. 1,500 Cattle Are Expected at Sale Approximately 1,500 head of cattle are expected for con signment at the annual Jack son County Feeder sale Tues . day at the Midway auction yard, according to Bill Bray, auction yard owner and auc tioneer. This is not as large a sale as last year's when 1,853 ani mals were sold, he noted. Many of the Rogue valley cattle are . already sold and a m t 1 J number or caiuemen are noia ing for better prices, "Bray said. Cattle coming out of the f eedlots now are selling for 3 cents lower than 30 days ago, he noted. However, the valley's beef animals are of "real good quality," Bray said. Unlike many other areas this was a good feed year for Rogue Val ley cattle, Bray explained. The prolonged dry spell over much of the country and prticularly in California has influenced .the cattle demand. Early rains in California, where many of the feeder sale buyers come from, came too early to do the ranges much good there, Bray noted. They are now dry again. Bray asked all consignors to at least call the yards and tell how many head they are bringing in ' since all ' cattle D will have to be sorted Mon day.' Deadline for sale en trants is 11 ajn. Tuesday. During the five years of the feeder sale demand has been built up for valley cattle, Bray noted. Six hundred cat tle were sold the first year.
