Mrs. Don Waldron will be luncheon chairman assisted by Mrs. Dayton Depue, Mrs. Jessie Staggs, Mrs. Warren Lesseg, Mrs. Reese Alexan der, Mrs. Rodney Witham and Mrs. Ester' Coleman. , , Playgoers See Ginger Rogers 'PinkJungle'; .- Several ..: Medford theater fans were in San Francisco Wednesday night to see the national premiere at the Alca zar of "The Pink Jungle' which stars Ginger Rogers. ; Among the first-nighters were O. H. Bengtson; J. E Robertson, his daughter-in- law, Mrs. Edward H. Collins, and Robertson E. Collins. The musical comedy, plot ted around a large cosmetic firm; also has Agnes Moore- head, Lief Erickson and Mag gie Hayes in the cast. San Francisco , reviewers noted that the play, produced by Paul Gregory, is- big, expen sive, too long and something of a hodge-podge. , Reviewers and" playgoers also concluded '. that Miss Moorehead s comedy role is the best in the show, and that she plays it brilliantly. Those of the Medford group de scribed Miss Rogers as beau tiful and charming, and were of the opinion that while her role -is the heaviest, it does not give her talents the op Dortunity which the Moore head role does for that ac tress. The play was described as amusing and enjoyable, and Miss Rogers was especi ally praised for a comedy toreador dance. The Pink Jungle" will re main in ban Francisco ior, a month and will then be tak en to the east coast. -' Miss Rogers ispent part of last summer at her ranch on the upper- Rogue river and was a guest at the opening of the Oregon , Shakespearean festival season in Ashland. Alpha Phi collegiate social sororities of Alumnae Group Marks Founding Alpha Phi Alumnae club recently celebrated Founder's Day with a meeting at the home of Mrs. Morris B. Leon ard, 2137 East Jackson street. - One of the oldest of the so cial sororities for women, Al pha Phi now has more than 30.000 members and has in stalled 70 collegiate chapters. Cardiac aid was adopted as the fraternity's national phil anthropy in 1946, and since that time members have con tributed nearly $400,000 to this cause and donated hun dreds of hours of volunteer work to local Heart associa tions.; The newest international fraternity project is the Al pha Phi Foundation, launched two years ' ago to provide scholarships for students and to make educational grants to universities. Two Californians Visit in Medford .. , - Mrs. Etha Silva, Oakland, Calif ., and Mrs. Linda Fergu son, Berkeley, Calif., have ar ! rived in Medford to visit Mrs. Silva's mother, Mrs. Mary Payne, North Bartlett street. The room was decorated with fall flowers and a large arrangement of carnations and stock centered the coffee' table. A cabinet of silver was presented to the Dennings by the members of their church congregation and they receiv ed man yother gifts. One gift stood out.: It was a set. of wrenches presented to' ; the minister by his son, David. ', The Dennings two sons, Tim and Arthur Denning, came from Eugene where they at tend college. Mr. Denning's parents, Mr., and Mrs. Adrian Sealey came from Le Grande, Calif., and Mrs. Mary McHen ry, an aunt, came from San Mateo, Calif. Mr. Mills, who has been giv ing talks on gar dens for sev eral years, has operated nurs eries and greenhouses and has done landscape work for es tates in Oregon. He has a collection of pictures of gar dens and flowers.
