Tickets will be sold only at the box office which will open at 1 o'clock. Ad mission is $1 for adults, 50 cents for students. Among the Symphony members is Louis Wildman, 17, who is in the precussion section and is one of .three members who played under the former Conductor Gersh- ovitch. He also plays with Recent Parties Honor Couple; Wedding Today Two recent parties have honored Miss Nettie Jane Jor dan and her fiance, Jack T. Walker II. Miss Jordan and Mr. Walker are to be married this afternoon at St. Mark's Episcopal church; Last Monday evening Mr. and Mrs. Bill F. Walker were hosts for a family party which honored the betrothed pair, The Walkers, aunt and uncle of the bridegroom-elect, invit ed family members to their home. 1701 East Main street. The guests included ; Miss Jordan's grandmother, - Mrs; Nettie Jordan, who came north for the wedding. : Tuesday evening Miss Jor dan was complimented at a shower given by Mrs. George Ice and her daughter, Miss I Dorotly Ice, at the family I home, 821 Dakota avenue. Paul Speaker, 17-year-old principal of the cello sec tion, is a senior at Washing ton High school and is play ing his first season with the main Portland Symphony. He was the " recipient of a scholarship to the First In ternational Congress of Strings held at "Greenleaf lake near Tulsa, Okla., this summer. His sister, Mary Lou, plays in the first violin section. Sixteen -y ear-old Joe Hearne is principal of the string bass section. A junior at Grant High school, he re ceived -a scholarship to mu sic camp at Aspen, Colo., this summer. Delmar Pettys, 16-year-old, who- plays in the first violin section, is a Junior at Cleve land High school. He also at tended the Aspen summer music camp and is playing his first season with the main Portland Symphony orchestra this fall. He is the youngest to be accepted by the orchestra. Symphony conductor is Ja cob Avshalomov. Medford Woman Visits Daughter; Sister is Guest Mrs. John J. Wilkinson has returned to her home on Keeneway drive after spend ing six weeks in St. Louis, Mp., with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Mangold. The Mangolds are the par ents of a son, Thomas Gerard, born September 21. Mr. Man gold is . the former Dolores Wilkinson. .Mrs. Wilkinson was . accom panied home by her sister, Mrs. Thomas Bickerstaff, Mill Valley, Calif., who will spend several weeks here. She will remain until after the wed ding of her nephew, Donald Wilkinson, to Miss Judy Fine gan, which has been set for November 7. 4 Chicago Couple, Italian Visitor Guests of Grants Houseguests of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Grant, 2726 Jacksonville highway, are Mr. and Mrs. Nello Zei, Chicago, and Mrs. Zei's sister, Miss Li bera Zei of Borgo-a-Buggiano, Province Pistoia, Italy. The visitors are spending several weeks in the valley sightseeing. Miss Zei plans to return to Italy next month following a tour of the United States during the last 11 months. League Announces Members; Follies Secretary For League To Be Here A luncheon at the Red Cross building Tuesday, Octo ber 27, for the League of Women Voters will have as speaker Mrs. Maybelle M. Long, Winchester, Mas s., organizing secretary for the United States league. Mrs. Hugh Collins, chairman for the event, has announced Mrs. Long's subject as "Learning with League Acting through it." This is one of a series of re gional conferences scheduled in Oregon. League members from Grants Pass and Klam ath Falls will be fuests of the Medford League for the ses sion which is set to begin at 10 ajn. and to end at 3 p.m. The Oregon president, Mrs. K. E. Montgomery, will be here for the meeting as well as Mrs. John Wolffe, state or ganization chairman. Mrs. Collins suggests that all members plan to attend the complete program. The luncheon will be catered and reservations may be made by calling the social chairman, Mrs. Richard Schwahn, SPring 2-8825. Four young women make up the 1959 class of provi sional members of Medford Junior Service league. The four are Mrs. Leonard R. Moyer, Mrs. Brian D. String er, Mrs. John T. Weisel and Mrs. H. Dewey Wilson. They . were introduced at the annual Founders' day luncheon of the league held Thursday noon at Rogue Val ley Country club. This tradi tional event is held each Octo ber to announce the new members and review plans for the league's activities during the coming season. ' Mrs. Edward - H. Collins, new president of the league, was out of the city Thursday and Mrs. Ralph E.' Hibbs, president-elect, presided. , The league was organized in 1947 by a small group of young women interested in widening the city's social and welfare horizons. During the league's early days a program of hospital welfare work was carried on. Eventually the group concentrated its efforts on establishment and ' opera tion of "a . kindergarten for. hard-of-h earing children, since no institution of this type was in operation in southern Oregon. The kinder garten is now an acknowl edged success, with the sup port and cooperation of wel fare and children's organiza tions and agencies throughout the state. f- - Anderson-Frazee Rites Announced Mrs. O. D. Frazee, 525 West Second street, and C. M. Anderson, formerly of Eugene, were married Fri day, October 9, in Reno, Ne vada. . i The couple visited Mr. An derson's sister-in-law, . Mrs. C. H. Whitney, and her two daughters at the , Whitney Guest Ranch following the wedding and prior to their return to Medford. The new lyweds, who are making their home at the West Sec ond street address, plan to ! leave later this month for Phoenix, Ariz., where they plan to spend the winter. First work for the new members will be to help with the Follies, given every second year to raise funds for the league's kindergarten for hard-of-hear-ing children. The Follies will be presented November 4-5. s Calendars in many valley homes have red circles around the dates of November 4 and 5 as members of the Junior Service league start rehearsals for the Follies of Proceeds from -the Follies will be used to maintain the kindergarten for hard-of-hear-ing children which the league founded. Mrs. Houston L. Bush Jr. and Mrs. George L. Lewis aire co-chairmen of this year's production. They have ap pointed committee chairmen, and have plans well under way. Mrs. Donald Wood, in charge of the programs, Mrs. H. S. Deuel Jr., and Mrs. Dar vid H. Holmes, who have in vited the patrons, and Mrs. Robert R. Dickey, as the head of the publicity committee, have been working on ad vance preparations for sev eral weeks. Mrs. B. Kent Blackhurst and Mrs. Jack A. Edson have tickets available now, and are distributing them-to several stores where : they may be conveniently purchased.' Casting will be done" as soon as the director has dis cussed the available parts with the . co-chairmen of the talent committee, Mrs. Hope Lewis and Mrs. Frank B. Hopewell. Tryouts will be held immediately and rehear sals will begin Tuesday. Members of the Junior Serv ice league will devote most of their time during the com ing weeks to rehearsals and ticket selling. Mrs. Warren is the former Joan Vakoc of Medford. The family arrived in the valley last week. The observance will be spon sored by Medford chapter, Oregon United Nations asso ciation, and Mayor John L. Snider with the cooperation of officers and members of the Jackson County Bar asso ciation. To focus attention on the day, the UN chapter and May or Snider plan a reception Sunday, October 24, at Girls Community club at 3 o'clock. On the program will be Sam B. Harbison, president of the Jackson County Bar associa tion, Frank Van Dyke, former legislator and well known at torney, and Robert B. Dun can, speaker of the Oregon House of Representatives for the last session." . It is considered significant that a committee of the Amer ican Bar association last week urged the United States to support the International Miss Carol Jean Boswell, is the fiancee of Russell D. Os borne of Willamina, Ore. Miss Boswell's engagement lo Mr, Osborne was announced rec ently by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Boswell, 1132 Leland street. Iml OLD BRA Court of Justice and asked the U. S. Senate to withdraw its "power of veto" over cases brought against the United States in the court. The Senate accepted juris diction of the court when it was established by the United Nations, but only on condi tion that the United States might determine which cases brought against it are "inter national" and which are "do mestic." Withdrawal of the reservation by the U. S. would be "a major practical and dra matic step towards the goal of the "rule of law among na tions," the ABA committee re port said. In the receiving line for the reception Sunday will be Mr. Harbison and his wife and other members of the associa tion and their wives. Among other guests will be officials of Jackson county and their wives and mayors of Jackson county cities and their wives. A coffee hour will conclude the reception and program. El liott, New Albany, Ind., who are houseguests of Mrs. El liott's sister, Mrs. R h e b a Corcoran, 934 North ' Ross lane. The Elliotts arrived in the valley October 8 and plan tc return to their home some time this week.
