Masquerade o o Gold Hill - Amethyst Re bekah lodge completed plans for the annual teachers' mas querade party, " honoring all teacheri of both Gold Hill schools and Crater High school, at a meeting held Wed nesday evening in the Odd Fellows hall. The event is sponsored by 'nine civic groups, and will be held Thursday, October 29, at 7:30 p.m. in the IOOF hall. All adults of the commun ity are invited to attend the affair, even though they are not a member of one of the sponsoring groups. All wom en attending, except the teachers, are to take a pie. Mrs. Daniel Stewart, vice- grand of Amethyst Rebekah lodge has been named general chairman for the party. She said each organization will provide : one skit, stunt, or game for the entertainment. Teachers will be asked to pre sent something for the pro gram. Btst Costumts Prizes will be awarded for 0 the best costumes. Other sponsoring groups are the Odd Fellows lodge, Past Noble Grands club, Am ethyst Rebekah Friendship club, Gold Hill Grange, Gold Hill Parent-? eacher associa tion, Gold Hill Health unit, Gold Hill Garden club, and the Gold Hill Lion club. Mrs. Stewart presided at the business session Wednes day in the absence of the no - ble grand, Mrs. Jerry Herring ton. oMrs. Edith Thompson and RJrs. Hannah Routh were ' in charge of serving refresh ments during the social hour. The next meeting of the lodge will be held Wednes day, October 21 at 8 p.m. -: . .. M ' - - John Hobart Wenlworth didn't have a word lo say, political or otherwise, when introduced to U. $. Senator and Mrs. Hubert Humphrey of Minnesota at a breakfast in Medford Thursday morning but it is plain to be seen that he met with the visitor's approval. The senator and his wife have a daughter and three sons and are known as a devoted family. John, the small son of Tribune Reporter and Mrs. Eric Wenlworth, was brought to the breakfast because his parents couldn't find a baby sitter at such an early hour. Since the conversation ran to such comments as "isn't he a darling baby" no statement as to political affiliations were made. . ' 65th Wedding Anniversary Observed by Couple Today Blue Star Mothers To Meet Thursday T Blue Star Mothers will meet at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oc tober 15, at the home of Mrs. Fred Middlebusher, 1098 Hil ton road. Those attending will work on afghans for res idents of the Camp White do miciliary. A covered dish luncheon will be served at noon and a short business meeting will be held with Mrs. Mary Note, president, in charge. Cave Junction-Friends and relatives will call on Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Wilber from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. today during an open house to, celebrate the couple's 65th wedding an niversary. Pioneers ' of the Illinois valley, they established a home on the West Side road on the west fork of Illinois river in 1925 and have lived in that vicinity ever since. They now make their- home near their, daughter, Mrs. Earl Boyd. Mrs. W i 1 b e r's interesting "bottle house" and her col lection of buttons, are well known in the area, and per sons from . many ' states , and several foreign countries have visited the Wilber home to view the collections. J. Berthdaud, Santa Rosa, Calif.; and a niece, Mrs. Merle Bar rows, Cloverdale, Calif. Mr. Wilber recently observ ed his 90th birthday. Daughter Arrives For Visit Here Visiting at the home of her parents in Medford is Mrs Donn G. Forbes, the former Carol Wickstrom, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin F. Wickstrom, 2216 Dellwood avenue. Mr. Forbes, who is in the sales department of Interna tional Paper company, was recently transferred from the Longview, Wash., office to Kansas City, Mo. . The Forbes, with their in fant son, Mark, arrived in the valley two weeks ago. Mr. Forbes continued on to Kans as City October 7 to locate a home for the family prior to the arrival of Mrs. Forbes and the baby in about two weeks. Chosen for the exhibit, which will circulate for two or three years throughout foreign capitals, is a picture of Sir Toby, Maria and Sir Andrew from Twelfth Night which appeared on the front cover of the Oregon Shake spearean Festival associa tion's program booklet this summer. Players who appear in the photograph are Theodore Marcuse as Sir Toby, Auriol M. D. Smith as Maria, and Richard D. Risso as Sir An drew. . Mr. Smith's photograph was selected from an exhibit at the Los Angeles County fair, Pomona, Calif. The traveling exhibit by the Information agency is part of a program of explaining to foreign peo ples the high standards which the American people have achieved in the areas of cul ture, science, education and industry.- Exhibits depicting these achievements, it was ex plained, are considered to be one of the best methods of at taining this objective. The previous sea son's cover photograph of "Shylock" portrayed by An gus L. Bowmer in The Mer chant of Venice received a merit award, at the annual Professional Photographers of America convention in Au gust. Meeting Held by Past Noble Grands Gold Hill - Mrs. Melford Hood was hostess for the last meeting of the Past Noble Grand's club of Amethyst Re bekah lodge at her home on Fourth avenue. Mrs. Albert Gascon, president of the group, conducted the business session. ' Several of the members re ceived gifts from their Ame thyst secret friends at the meeting. Mrs. Daniel Stewart will be hostess for the next meeting of the group at her home on Fifth avenue, Thursday, Oc tober 22, at 8 p.m. Ashland-Rehearsals for thp Southern Oregon Community chorus, which will present Handel's "Messiah," will be gin Tuesday, October 13 at 7:30 p.m., Room 210, ChurT chill hall, on the Southern Oregon college campus, it was announced by Dr. Herbert Ce cil, director. " Sponsored by the SOC mu sic department, the perform ance of the "Messiah" will take place on Sunday after noon, December 13 and will be presented by, the chorus, the Southern Oregon Little Symphony orchestra, .and soloists.
