Richey and Mrs. Reuben Richey were hostesses Sunday at a family surprise - party for Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Yost Jr., Port land, who were in the valley for the Labor Day weekend. Sunday, Sept. 13, : 959 A 9 Gold Hill Couple Honored Gold Hill Mr. and Mrs. William Bailey were honored at a party September 5 which observed their" 50th wedding anniversary. The event, held at their home a mile south of Gold Hill on Old Stage road, was given by relatives and friends. ; The honored, couple re ceived many gifts. " , Mr. and Mrs. Bailey met at a time when their families were living in Wheeler, coun ty, Texas, and were married there September 5, 1909. They moved to Yuma valley, Ariz., where they lived for 28 rears, and then came to Gold Hill 10 years ago: Mrs. Bailey was born in Stonewall, Okla., June 12, 1890, and Mr. Baey was born- in Mac donald county, Missouri,. Jan uary 18, 1884. Tne Baileys have eight chil dren. They are Leonard E. Bailey, Riverside, Calif.; Hu bert E. Bailey, Gold Hill; M. Sgt. Ralph Bailey, Baltimore, Md.; Mrs. Francis L. Fohl, Fort Ord, Calif.; William Lee Bailey, Sumner, Wash.; Mrs. Otto McCoy, Redland, Calif.; Mrs. O. H. Fletcher, Yuma, Ariz., and Thomas Bailey, now in England where he has been on Army duty. Hubert Bailey and Mrs. Fohl were with their parents for the anniversary. The Baileys also have 28 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. - Plans Sessions Two chapters of the PEO Sisterhood have scheduled meetings for this week. Chapter CP will meet at the home of Mrs. L. B. Mayfield, 1 Black Oak drive, at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 16, with Mrs. S. V. McQueen and Mrs. T. B. Barss assisting the hostess. Mrs. E. S. Strother will re view Oregon history for the program. Chapter BE will meet at the home of Mrs. Fletcher Fish Tuesday, September 15, at 7:30 p.m. Mrs. J. D. Speech Recipe Topic for Club Medford Toastmistress club members and their guests were given a "Recipe for a Speech" at a meeting of the club September 9. Mrs. Ar nold Bohnert, acting as toast mistress of the evening, intro duced Mrs.. Harry Marshall, who spoke on the "Selection of Ingredients;" "Mrs. James VanDerSteen, who spoke on the "Preparation and Serv ing;" Mrs. Elmer Ness whose subject was "Delivery, How You Will Look;" and Mrs. Mary Sands, who completed the recipe in her speech on "How You Will Sound." Mrs. Ethel Mclntyre, topic mistress, . called on members to give two minute impromp tu speeches on subjects relat ing to the problems of prepar ing and delivering a speech. Invocation was given by-Mrs. Ellen Lynner. Miss Anna Streed served as program evaluator while, the speech evaluation was ' handled by Mrs. Lynner. Mrs. C. R. A-sl GREEN STAMPS Institute Planned 'The annual Bi-County In stitute of the Woman's Chris tian Temperance Union will be held at Girls Community club on North Bartlett street Thursday, September 17, fol lowing a covered dish lunch eon. The public is invited. . The Medford Union will hold its regular monthly meeting at 10 a.m. to install newly-elected officers. The Rev. Henry I. Brown will lead devotions. Bi-county officers will be elected following the- noon luncheon; Mrs.: Eve Prentice will present accordion num bers. Mrsi Ernest Santo will give a talk on mission work among Indian tribes in New Mexico and Mexico and, will show pictures of the south west. Members of the Medford group will provide hot dishes, meat, coffee, tea and rolls. Extension Units Plan Festival "What Makes A 100 Per Cent Home?" This question is the theme of the District V Home Extension festival which will be held at the Fair grounds in Klamath Falls Thursday, September 17. Homemakers from Josephine, Jackson, and Klamath Coun ties will participate. , The meeting will convene at 10 a.m. Mrs. E. H. Ahl strom, District V chairman, will preside. Principal speaker will be Mrs. Roberta Frazier who has recently joined the Oregon State college exten sion staff as family life spe cialist. Mrs. E. E. Kilpatrick, Sa lem, Ore., will also speak. Mrs. Kilpatrick is the general chairman of the National Home Extension council con vention committee. She will tell of the last-minute plans for the national convention to be held in Portland ' October 11-14. ' -r - Other guests expected at the Festival include Frank Bal lard, director of r the Oregon Extension service, and Miss Evelyn Funk, state extension agent. . Part of the delegation from Jackson ' county will go to Klamath Falls by chartered bus and many others will go in private cars. ' i . Schedule Set For Gymnasium Classes at Y The women's gymnasium class of the YMCA will meet each Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon be ginning September 15, Y of ficials reported yesterday. The class will include exer cise with music, instruction in sports, nd swimming instruc tion by Mrs.,Lanell Wilkes. Child care under the super vision of Mrs. Earl Nelson is available during classes. Grays To Host Weavers' Guild . Rogue Valley Handweavers' guild will meet at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Gray on Cherry lane at 8 p jn. Tuesday, September 15. Mrs. Everett Lasher will give a lesson on "Twill Drawndown." Retired Teachers Plan Picnic Monday The September meeting of the Jackson- County Retired Teachers association will be a potluck picnic in Lithia park, Ashland, Monday, September 14. '. Those needing transporta tion are to be at the Jackson hotel not later than 11:43 am. Ashland members are in charge of arrangements and will provide coffee.
