Dugan-Spencer Ceremony Held in Baker Church A wedding of interest to valley residents was held August 22 in St. Irancis Cathedral, Baker, Ore., when Miss Suzanne Patricia Spencer of that city became the bride of Timothj J. Dugan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Dugan, Valleyview. Mr. and Mrs. Warren A. Spencer are the bride's parents. The Rev. Thomas J. Moore officiated at the 11 o'clock morning nuptial mass attend ed by 250 relatives and friends. Mrs. Shirley Crane played the organ wedding mu sic and ' accompanied Joseph Bowen, soloist. Gladiolus in pastel shades decorated the church. The bride wore a floor length white organza gown trimmed with sequins and pearls. The skirt formed a chapel train and her fingertip length veil was held by a cap of sequins and pearls. Her pearl earrings were a gift of the bridegroom. She carried a bouquet of red rosebuds and stephanotis. Mr. Spencer es corted his daughter to the altar. Miss Cheryl Spencer, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Celeste Spencer, Miss Jan Spencer, both sisters of the bride, Miss Judith Atteberry, all Baker, cousin of the bride, MLs Mary Kay Dugan, Ash land, sister of the bridegroom, and Miss Mary Margaret Mor ris, Haines, Ore. They wore embroidered Nile green nylon frocks with matching head dresses and carried bouquets of white chrysanthemums and white daisies tied wtih green ribbons. Flower girls were Kim Spencer, Baker, sister of the bride, and Kathy Clark, cou sin of the bridegroom. Greg ory Spencer, Baker, brother of the bride, was ring bearer. Patrick Dugan, brother of the bridegroom, served as best man and seating the guests were Timothy Atte berry, cousin of the bride; Brian Spencer, brother of the bride, both Baker, and John Walsh, Medford. For her daughter's wedding and the reception which fol lowed In the parish hall of the church Mrs. Spencer wore an embroidered beige linen dress with feather hat. Mrs. Dugan chose a sheath dress in cop per-tone with overskirt and feather hat. Their corsages were of white carnations and -orchids. Miss Barbara Alfrey, Port land, cousin of the bride, and Mrs. Raymond Spencer, Boise, Idaho, aunt of the bride, cut and served the wedding cake. Mrs. Clifton J. Windle, Lake view, aunt of the bride, and Mrs. T. Ned Thomas, Baker, presided at the punch bowls. Mrs. R. T. Alfrey, Portland, and Mrs. J. F. Clark, Medford, aunts of the bride and bride groom, respectively, poured the coffee. Miss Karen Windle, cousin of the bride, was in charge of the guest book and Mrs. Jessie Cham bers, aunt of the bride, was at the gift table. Following the reception the couple traveled to San Fran cisco on their wedding trip. The bride wore for traveling a green suit with the rose cor sage from her wedding bouquet. The bride is a graduate of St. Francis Academy. Mr. Du gan attended St. Mary's High school and both attended the University of Portland. The couple plan to make their home in Talent until he re sumes his studies at the uni versity. Among the out of towns guests attending were Mrs. Herman Gillette, Seaside; R. T. Alfrey, Portland; Ardis Alfrey, San Francisco; Mr. and Mrs. Michael Sherlock, Portland; Mr. Windle and Da vid Windles, Lakeview; Mr. Spencer and Scott Spencer, Boise, Idaho; and relatives of the bridegroom, Mrs. Henry J. D e v a n e y, grandmother, J. F. Clark, uncle, both Med ford; Mr. and Mrs. McDonald C. Devaney, San Francisco, uncle and aunt; Dr. and Mrs. C. R. Howarth, St. Helens, uncle and aunt; Miss Helen Dugan, Miss Margaret Dugan, both Medford, Miss Mildred Dugan, Walla Walla, Wash , all aunts; and cousins, Miss Josephine Whitman and son, Mike, Medford; Eugene Allen, Niagara Falls, New York; and Mrs. Ralph Buck, Seattle. The evening prior to the wedding Mr. and Mrs. Dugan were hosts for a rehearsal buffet supper at the Spencer home for members of the wed ding party: - Student Leaves To Study Abroad Miss Mildred Gail, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. Norman Gail, Gold Hill, left Thursday for New York City where she will visit friends prior to sail ing for Paris, France, Septem ber 12. ' Miss Gail was selected last December as Rotary fellow from Oregon for study aboard. The Rotary Foundation fel lowship will enable her to study one year at the National School of Living Oriental Language in Paris. The school is considered one of the world's best for study of the Russian language. Miss Gail is proficient in Rus sian and French and has also studied Spanish. Newly weds Honored At, Party Shady Cove - Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Wayne Edwards were honored at a garden party August 3 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Al Andre. The couple were married August 1 in Reno, Nevada. Mrs. Edwards is the former Miss Patricia Mae Gusland, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Gusland, Shady Cove. Mr. Edwards' parents are Mr. and Mrs. Donald Edwards, Grants Pass. Mrs. Andre attended the bride at the wedding. Morris L. Hoover served as best man. Justice of the Peace William R. Beemer officiated at the 4:30 pjn. ceremony. Among those attending the party were Mr. and Mrs. Hoover, Miss Anna Gusland, sister of the bride, and Roy Gusland, brother of the bride. A wedding cake was served. Following tiie party the newlywed couple traveled to Grants Pass to visit Mr. Ed wards' parents. Mrs. Gusland is a graduate of Eagle Point High school and was employed by Hardell Publishers Service Inc. Mr. Edwards attended Grants Pass High school and was employed by Leo Hoag as a logger. He was recently dis charged from the U. S. Navy following four years duty and plans to re-enlist next month. The couple are making their home in Shady Cove while in the area. California Pair Attends Festival Mr. and Mrs. Russell Ulrich and daughters, Susan and Catherine, will leave today for home in Palo Alto, Calif., after a brief stay here with Mr. Ulrich's mother, Mrs. Lewis Ulrich, 839 Minnesota avenue. The Ulrichs made the trip at this time in order to attend a performance of the Oregon Shakespearean festival in Ashland and they attended "Twelfth Night" last night. Mr. Ulrich is superintend ent of meterology for the western division of Pan American Airways. ' Temple Members Plan Ceremonial A large delegation of mem bers of Zuleima temple, Daughters of the Nile, will go to Cottage Grove, Ore., Sep tember 1 to attend a ceremo nial. The event will honor Mrs. Ruth E. Woolever; Los Angeles, supreme queen of the order. The delegation will include temple officers living in this area and members of the temple patrol, made up of Medford and Grants Pass women. (Brainerd photo) William Starks Honored On Golden W adding Day family dinner was held in the Crest room attended by 14 persons. f Souza-Cummins Mr. and Mrs. William Lewis Clark, Crown avenue, were honored August 23 at a recep tion given by their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley L. Stark Fair Ook drive, at Rogue Valley Coun try club. The reception was in celebration of the couple's golden wedding anniversary. More than 200 guests at tended the event. Among the relatives attending were Mrs. Lee Smith, granddaughter, and Stacey Smith, great granddaughter, Mill Valley, Calif.; Mrs. Edwin Foss, Bur lingame, Calif., sister; Mrs. L e 1 a n d Bonar, Redding, Calif., niece; and Cleve Foss, Sunnyvale, Calif., nephew. Also attending were Mr. Smith and Mrs. Foss. Assisting with the recep tion were Mrs. E. B. Radz weit, who cut and served the tiered gold and white, cake, and Mrs. Dorothy Dowson and Mrs. Thomas Culbert son, who presided at the punch bowls. Mrs. Gordon Mackenzie poured the coffee and Mrs. B. L. Nutting was in charge of the guest book. Yellow gladiolus and chrys anthemums and white daisies decorated the main dining room at the club for the aft ernoon event. Gold candela bra and white doves were on the serving tables. Mr. and Mrs. Stark were married August 23, 1909, in Seattle, Wash., and moved to Oregon in 1927. They have been Medford residents since 1950 where they moved fol lowing Mr. Stark's retire ment after working 35 years with Standard Oil company of California. Following the reception a Rites Are Held Hornbrook The marriage of Miss Marilyn Anita Cum mins to Earl Manuel Souza was solemnized Sunday, Au gust 16 at the Bidwell Memo rial Presbyterian church in Chico, Calif. The bride is a daughter of Mrs. Malcolm Windsor, Yreka, and Carl Cummins, Hornbrook, who gave his daughter in marriage. Others from here attending the ceremony and reception which followed at the Chico Golf Club were the bride's grandmother, Mrs. Martha Cummins, Mrs. Ardon Burns, Mrs. Ethel White, Mrs. Al King and daughter Terry, and Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Burns, and their daughter and son-in- law, Mr. and Mrs. Leland Stickney, and daughter Alana, Medford. Terry King served as flower girl, and her mother presided at the punch bowl. The brides matron of honor was her sister, Mrs. William Montgomery, Yreka. Mrs Montgomery the former Myrna Cummins, is herself a bride, her " marriage having taken place July 5 in Yreka Both brides grew up in Hornbrook and attended grammar school, here. They were graduated from Yreka High school, and are recent graduates of Chico State col lege. Mr. and Mrs. Souza will make their home in Gridley, Calif., where he will be a teacher in the grammar school. Family Leaving After Visit Here Dr. and Mrs. Gerald Dier- dorff and children, former Medford residents, have been houseguests of Mrs. Clara Ziegler and her daughter, Mrs. Barbara Norcross, 1233 Fortune drive. The Dierdorffs arrived here recently from Des Moines, la., where Dr. Dierdorff recently completed surgical residency at Des Moines general hospi tal Mrs. Ziegler traveled to the coast with the Dierdorffs after spending a month with the family in Des Moines. The guests have spent the past several days in Sunny side, Wash., and are to leave Medford today to return to Washington. They also have visited with Dr. Dierdorffs parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Pierdorff, and other relatives in the Oakland, Calif., area. "' Many Guests Attend Party For Bride-Elect Miss Sharon Jean Merkel, whose wedding to Lionel Rentschler of Lynwood, Calif. will take place in December, was honored Monday night by a bridal shower at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Virgil Mohr, 1806 East Main street. Miss Merkel is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. A. E. Merkel, who formerly resided at 2115 Oakwood drive in Medford Dr. Merkel recently resigned his position as Jackson coun ty health officer here to ac cept an office in the San Diego health department, and they are now making their home in Chula Vista, Calif . Mrs. Merkel and Sharon Jean have been spending sev eral days in Medford visiting friends and making final ar rangements for the closing of their home here. Approximately 60 guests at tended the Monday night event. Mrs. Frank Schuler, an out-of-town guest, made the trip from Portland to visit wit. the bride-elect and her mother during their stay here. Mrs. Mohr's assisting host esses were Mrs. Paul Beddoe and Mrs. Helen Kamberg. An unusual feature of the evening was an original poem written by Mrs. Merkel depicting the history of her daughter's life and read by Mrs. Harvard Bresee. A row of pink hibiscus blos soms and pink candles center ed the refreshment table. Miss Sandra Hubbard of ficiated at the punch bowl, and the Misses Diane Mohr and Gladys Beddoe assisted with gifts. Little Candace Mohr and Pamela Beddoe met guests at the door. Miss Merkel is a senior nurs ing student at Glendale Sani tarium, Glendale, Calif., and will graduate there this fall. Her fiance is a student at the College of Medical Evange lists school of dentistry in Loma Linda, Calif., where the couple will make their home. Anniversary Observed By Couple Gold Hill - Mr. and Mrs. Bozy Tepovac, Gold Hill, cele brated their 51st wedding an niversary August 10 at a pic nic with members of their fam ily at TouVelle park. The oc casion also celebrated the 13th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Simpson, Med ford, whose anniversary was on August 9. Mrs. Simpson is the Tepovacs granddaughter. Others attending the affair were Mr. and Mrs. Ray Cham berlain, the Simpsons' four children, Gloria, David," Nan cy and Linda, Medford; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Willard and son, Robbie, of San Diego, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. Mike Te povac, Jerry Tepovac, and Mr. and Mrs. George Triller and sons, Mike, John and George, all of Gold Hill. A decorated anniversary cake was made by Mrs. Mike Tepovac for the occasion. Mr. and Mrs. Bozy Tepovac were married August 10, 1908. in the Orthodox church in Slunj, Yugoslavia, then Aus tria-Hungary. They are the parents of five children. He is a retired em ployee of the Ideal Cement company, having worked at the Gold Hill plant for 35 years prior to his retirement in 1952. The Tepovacs are members of the Gold Hill Community Methodist church. Both like gardening as a hobby for lei sure hours. . Mr. and Mrs. Willard Rob bie returned to their home in San Diego August 25 after a two week vacation in southern Oregon. They were house guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Chamberlain. Another son-in-law and daughter of Mr. and . Mrs. Chamberlain, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Simpson and their four children are newcomers to Medford, having moved re cently from Bakersfield, Calif. Oregon Regent To Be Visitor f Mrs.. Claud G. Stotts, Coos Bay, Ore., regent of the Ore gon Daughters of the Ameri can Revolution, will visit Medford Thursday, Septem ber 3. Mrs. Stotts wil be hon ored at a no-host luncheon to be given at the Medford ho tel by members of Crater Lake chapter.
