My wife has taken up with a woman of bad repu tation. Elain A. 111 choose any friends I please. Alan A. I am at a loss to know how to deal with my wife. She has taken up with a woman of bad reputation and I can't get her to under stand that she is harming our married life and our three children. This woman Carol has been married three times and is known in our community as a home-wrecker. What she and my wife can have in com mon is more than I can imag ine. My wife had a wonder ful upbringing and never even went out with anyone but me. Things have gotten so bad that the neighbors are all talking. One of the women in our housing development came to tell me about it. She said she is very fond of my wife and hates to see others get the wrong impression of her. , Elaine A. I think that 'woman who spoke to my hus band has more nerve than brains. Who is she anyway my governess? I am 27 years old and I'll choose whatever friends I please. I met Carol when she hap pened to be passing the baby carriage and caught my Daby as he almost took a dive for the sidewalk. I was so grate ful I could have kissed her. Then we started talking and I found her very pleasant. I don't approve of some of her language or the way she dress es, but outside of that she is very nice. I have noticed that some of the other women have steered clear of me since I took up with Carol. I don't care because I find her more interesting to talk to than a lot of them. ' - Th Council: We can find -only one villainess in this story and that is the woman who went bearing a silly tale to a too-easily-upset husband. . We get the impression that .Elaine is the kind of person who is sure of herself and her own standards. She is not afraid to be grateful, court--eous and kind to a woman of , doubtful reputation because she knows she cannot be easily .tainted. Alan offers no com plaints about his wife's be havior since she has taken up with Carol, so we are assum ing that the possible evil in fluences have failed to ma terialize. It is possible that Carol has had a lurid past yet is cap able of good and of appreciat ing respect and consideration when they are given her. If Carol is so disturbed as to be beyond the help of a kindly woman, the chances are that Elaine will find her self forced to give up this friendship. Elaine could be wrongly affected by Carol only if she were herself very confused and unhappy with her lot. In view of the absence of such signs, we would con sider her quite capable of suc cessfully choosing her own friends. We think Alan ought to bear in mind the incident that brought the two women to gether the saving of his baby from a dangerous' fall. It is reminder of the possibil ity of good which lies in everyone. Lusk, formerly of Kennewick, Wash., has been named' manager of the new East Medford branch of the Rogue Valley State bank, Clarence Young, president, has announced. The new branch is expect ed to open in the Medford Shopping Center area Sept. 19. The shopping center's first business opened last Thursday. Lusk formerly was assist ant manager of the Kenne wick branch of the Seattle First National bank of Kenne wick and prior to that was assistant cashier of the Valley National bank at Milton-Free-water. He also has been with the Old National bank of Spokane. Lusk has been active in various civic afairs, the Jun ior Chamber of Commerce, American Legion and Toast masters. He is an officer in the Air National Guard. Jackson Highway Project Bids Opened Salem (UPD Bids on high way projects totaling about $l,500,000.(will be opened by the State Highway Commis sion here Sept. 10. Contracts will not be award ed until the Commission meets here Sept. 24. No interstate highway pro jects are involved, as the Com mission has closed down bid ding on these projects until congress provides money for them. Bids by counties included: Jackson: 51 -foot concrete slab bridge about 2 miles south of Gold Hill; 88-foot con crete slab bridge about 4.5 miles south of Trail on Rogue River drive. 10 MAIL TRIBUNE, Medford, Or. Friday, Aug. 2t, 1959 Baker Youngster Injured in Tumble Portland-COPD-Barton Wood, 9, Baker, remained in criti cal condition in a local hos pital today from a head in jury suffered Thursday in a fall from a bicycle at Baker. The youth, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Wood of Baker, was flown here by Don's Fly ing Service. Attendants at Providence hospital said his condition re mained unchanged through out the night.
