Q Crocker Jennings Hunter, 29, of 214 Girard dr., Medford, was fined $30 on disorderly conduct charges in district court last week. He had changed his plea from innocent to guilty, court officials reported. Hunter was charged with quarrelling and fighting with arresting offi cers in Jacksonville Aug. 1. With her is Russ Jamison, fair manager. Registrations for YCamp Being Taken The YMCA is now taking registrations for a family camp at Diamond lake, sched uled for the week end of Sept. 5 and 6. The camp will be informal and similar to the one held over the July 4 week end. Boats, tents and cooking fa cilities will be supplied, to families who need them. "Unless mindful of the de ceitful tricks used by furnace repair gyps who solicit jobs during the heating off-season," McNeill said, "even otherwise cautious homeown ers may be swindled by one of the most vicious and costly schemes of the day." The chamber manager not ed that the furnace repair scheme continues to mulct homeowners throughout the country. He said it is imperi tive that homeowners be on constant guard against the "despicable scheme during this period of the year when furnaces normally are clean ed and serviced." Identify Schema McNeil said an alert home owner can easily identify the scheme. An "inspector" asks access to the basement, and if given permission, usually tells the homeowner he will have to call in an "engineer" who partly dismantles the furnace, he said. Then the homeowner is told a new furnace is needed, and high pressure salesmanship is used to scare the housewife into signing a contract, the chamber manager said. Sometimes the scheme starts with a salesman solicit ing a furnace cleaning job and later calls in an "engi neer" who uses the "Tear down - and - scare - 'em" tech nique, he said. McNeill noted that an of ficial inspector will show his credentials, and if the person posing as an inspector admits he represents a furnace com pany, call the chamber as soon as possible. He pointed out that fur naces eventually wear out and need replacing, but he added that reputable heating contractors do not go around falsely posing as "inspectors," , nor do they dismantle fur naces without permission. Re putable heating contractors do not attempt to freighten people into buying their equipment, McNeil noted. Kerbyville Museum To Be Dedicated Cave Junction - Dedication of the Kerbyville Historical museum, Kerby, will be held at 2:30 o'clock today. Josephine County Judge Raymond Lathrop will speak.
