7. IT -4 7 1 i : I V.I I fi&SLA 4 XOVEL'AIRES-Appearfng at the Kiwanis County Fair will be the Novel'aires, a ver aatile musical trio who have provided en tertainment to cities across the nation. They are scheduled for three shows each on Saturday and Sunday. The Kiwanis fair will be held at the Armory from Thursday and Sunday. Entertainment Set At Kiwanis Fair Here This Week End The Novel'aires a marimba trio who have appeared in Reno, Las Vegas and Mexico City and who have a guest pot with Ed Sullivan lined up for December, will be at the Kiwanis County Fair for a scheduled six appearances on Saturday and Sunday. Other entertainers are scheduled to make appear ances on all four days of the fair, to be held Thursday through Sunday at the Arm ory, and it is hoped that all groups will present "bonus" shows, in addition to those scheduled. Also on tap for the fair are this year's f'Mrs. Oregon," Mrs. Dorothy Jean Chase of Eugene, who Is due to arrive Saturday morning, and the galloping grand mother of Gallipolis, Ohio, Mrs. Emma Gatewood, who is expected on Friday night. Horel'Alres Group The Novel-aires, a versatile . marimba-piano-guitar group, consist of Don Raymond, who has appeared as a single, and Aurelia Jean and Aurora Lou Routtu. Jeannie Routtu is .choreographer. The Novel'aires are -scheduled for shows at 3:30, 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Appearing at the same time will be Miss Codgie Clark, a vocalist and violinist, 'who has played in Chicago, New York and Miami. Her num bers range from gypsy num bers to hoe-down music.- The Borden family, seven talented musicians from Med ford, are scheduled for two shows Thursday evening, and the Shadows, a youngv local group, are scheduled to pre sent two shows each on Fri day and Sunday. Astoria - (DPD - The first passenger train to visit here In seven years chugged in Sunday, then hosted 300 pas sengers back to Portland. The Centennial excursion trip was sponsored by the Pacific Northwest Electric Railway association. COMMUNITY BIRTHDAY Southbury, Conn. (OPD - All four of Mrs. Fred Finn's chil dren were born on Oct. 23 be tween 1952 and 1958. Purebred Ewe Sale Slated at Rickreall Dallas - The second annual Oregon Purebred : Bred Ewe and Ewe Lamb sale, will be held Saturday, Nov. 14 at the Polk county fairgrounds at Rickreall. according to Don Kessi of Harlan, chairman of the sale committee. More than 200 head of pure bred ewes are expected for this sale. Consignments will come from top sheep breed ers from Oregon. The sale will provide an opportunity for those wishing to start in the purebred sheep business or make additions to their flocks to select top-quality ewes for this purpose. Members of 4-H and FFA members find the sale an ex cellent opportunity to select breeding stock for their proj ects, r N. John Hansen, Polk coun ty extension agent at Dallas, said the entries will close the end of the month. Any addi tional consignments by pure bred breeders should be made by that time. Ewe sale catalogs will be available in early October. Anyone wishing a catalog may send their name to the secre tary, box 348, Dallas, arid a catalog will be sent , to them when they are released from the printers. Area Wild Flowers In Fair Exhibits An "Oregon native wild flower Garden, designed and planted by Marcel LePiniec, owner of the Garden Center nursery, will be among ex hibits of the Kiwanis county fair which opens Thursday at the Medford armory. A well- known author and lecturer on native plants, LePiniec is win ner of 20 gold medals at the various international flower shows held in New York City. He designed the gold medal winning wild flower garden for the Garden Club of Amer ica at the New York World's Fair in 1932. An unusual part of the dis play will be one of Oregon's most unusual wild flowers, the Darlingtonia, also known as the Cobra plant, an insect eating plant. Also featured will be a collection of native ferns and evergreens, as well as some of the rarest shrubs. Fair officials report the many different features have been planned to please the varied interests of residents in the area. They expressed hope that it would serve to stimulate greater interest in creating outstanding exhibits for the Kiwanis-sponsored an nual fair. A contest to list the proper name of all the varieties of Oregon plants on exhibit will be conducted during the four day show. Fifty dollars worth of shrubs from the Garden Center nursery will be pre sented v to the individual cor rectly naming the most va rieties. Another display at the Ki wanis event will feature dwarf bonzais and an exten sive display of planted rocks. Shaggy Dog to Host Children's Events A shaggy dog will be the official host for children's events Thursday evening at the Kiwanis county fair. Of ficials stated that the dog, owned by Mr. and Mrs. Bert hold Barnura Sr., "has agreed to the Thursday appearance, but could not guarantee other appearances during the four day show." 1 Wj life COW AND CALF - Marilyn Watson, 17, and a calf at the annual Jackson county member of a Central Point area livestock 4-H and FFA fair this week.
