The host, Montague Trail Riders, competed for the traveling trophy against Ga zelle Horsemen and the Squaw Valley Riders. The play day started with the grand entry, lead by three of Montague's cowgirls carry ing various flags. Club presidents were intro duced. They are Marino Riz zardo of Montague, Trail Rid ers; Lenard Helsey of Gazelle Horseman, and Ronald Hitch cock of Squaw Valley Riders. tato race. Montague was first, Gazelle second, and McCloud third. In the four leaf clover race Marino Rizzardo, Mon tague, was first; Burnie Young, Gazelle, second, and Marie Sutcliffe, Gazelle, third. Gazelle took first in the ba ton race, Montague was sec ond and McCloud third. Ger ald Watson of Hilts won the barrel crawl. Diane Fehlman of Montague was second, and Marie Sutcliffe of Gazelle third. The jack pot team roping was won by Don Dowling and , The first event was the po- Delmer Botts, with second place going to Stanley Cooley race withv Gazelle second and and Allen Jespersen, Montague won the equiva lent race. Both Gazelle and McCloud were disqualified. Gazelle won the bareback race. McCloud was second and Montague third. Diane Fehlman of Montague won the pole bending event. Marie Sutcliffe of Gazelle was second and Bonnie Rowe of Montague third. The jumps were open and winners were Melvin Facey of McCloud, ' first; Marie Sut cliffe of Gazelle, second; and Mida Casterline of Gazelle, third. Montague won the balloon McCloud third Marino Rizzardo with Ker with Wheeler riding won the hider ace. Ralph Dike with Richard Hockaday5 riding won second, and John Petersen with Jimmy Watson riding won third. Points earned toward the traveling trophy were Mon tague, 22; Gazelle, 18, and McCloud 7. Gresham - IUPD - M. C Flem ing of Wandamere Farms, Boring, won seven of eight championships in guernsey competition at the Multnomah county fair here. Antelope Hunters Urged To Use Care Salem-UPD-An urgent plea to use extreme care with fire has been directed by State Forester Dwight L. Phipps to the, many antelope hunters who are heading for eastern Oregon for the season open ing Saturday. He - pointed out that the hazard is very high and the slightest spark could ignite dry grass and brush. He said that in the open eastern Ore gon country, winds can carry fires over large areas of graz ing land in a very short time. TOWN SHORT-CIRCUITED Columbus,' Ohio -(UPD-, A court 'ruled Wednesday that one electric current may not be forced, to check up on the activities of another electric current. The village- of Min erva lost its fight to force the Ohio Edison Co. to supply power for one clock in the Minerva Municipal Light and Power Co. plant. The village said it wanted the outside pover fluctuations. The antelope range is ex tremely isolated, he added, and it is difficult to get fire fighters and. heavy equipment into the area. Dog Saves Wonder Boy From Snake Grants Pass (UPD A dog named Tippy is being hailed as a hero here for saving its three-year-old master from a rattlesnake. Robert Ashton .of Wonder, about 19 miles southwest of here, said he heard the dog barking frantically and went outside to see his son, Bobby, trying to hit a rattlesnake with a stick. The dog was pushing the boy away from the snake. Ashton killed the snake with a .22 caliber rifle. Red awards went to Linda Cornutt and Nyla Murray, seniors, and Doris Young and Georgia Mitchel, juniors. wnue award winners were Nancy McKay, Patsy Charley, Bonnie Smith and Elaine McKay, seniors, and Susan Hall, Frances Huffman, and Susie Carroll, juniors. Pauline Denyer received an exhibitor award in senior bread baking. At the same time that these bread contests were being carried out, 4-H sewing mem bers -in the Just So Girl and Sew, its Fun projects were Dusy exhibiting their skill with, the blanket stitch and button sewing contests. Champion in the blanket stitch contest was Janice Blank, with other blue award winners being Loreita Pierep. Gloria Meyer, and Marlene Nouguier. Red award winners Shawn Caperna, Amy Jo Helm. Susan Hess, Duanis Millard, Jillinda Arthur, Mar garet Carnegie, and Susan Head. While the following were white award winners: Marcy Miller.' Mollv Elv. rar- men Farlow, Lynda Brad shaw, Sandra Hammonds, Di ane Millard, Joyce Drennen. Sallie Eaton, Marcia Berteau, Doreen Blumenfeld, Arlene Moore, Susan Whinihan. Jennifer Nevin was cham pion in the button sewing con test in which each member sewed a button on the blouse in the space where it was needed. Terry Calhoun and Jennifer received blue awards. Red awards went to Marilyn Learning, Kathy Rempert, Maay Drennen, Jeanette Hog len, Rose Trautman, Nancy t-arrou, Elaine Meyer, Carol Roach, Terry McManama and Judy Waltz. The white award winners were Donna Weit- man, Rosemary Rempert, Ani ta Bradshaw, Cherylee Beck er, Linda Moore, Donna xvuug, vdiUl muicuu, ni erf n Bailey, Linda Chisum, Judy Barnum, Nancy Day, Robyn Goodrich, Theresa' Newcomb, Dawn Oliver, and Sandra Paulson, and exhibitor award to Ann Akins. The home living contests consisted of mixing paints to obtain tints and shades of colors, and the drawing of a floor plan with storage space for the duplicate things a teen-ager would have to store. In this contest red award winners were Anita Pierce, Carol Myers, and Pat Strip-, lin. White award winner was Aletta Myers and exhibitor award went to Glenna Brown. - Home' economics contests and demonstrations continue throughout Saturday of this week and the public is invited to attend at any time.
