BUTTE FALLS Tourists Visit Area Br MARY JO HARRIS Butt j Fal'-: - The month of July found aiany tourists in the area and many of the local residents on vacation, some taking several short trips, others taking one long trip and many just camping out hoping to avoid some of the heat. July visitors in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Smith were Mrs. Swen Johansen of Coquille and Mike Purvis of Gold Beach. Mrs. Johansen is a daughter of the Smiths and Mike is their great grandson. July visitors also included Mr. and Mrs. George Zinn and daughter, Brenda of Al buquerque, N.M. They spent several days at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Curtis. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Hartle rode Jr., Ashland, attended the wedding of Miss Virginia McAlister to Larry Cavin last week. The Hartlerodes' daughter, Susan, is spending the remainder of the week with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Elga Abbott. Raymond Abbott is work ing at the Cannc-i Beach Bible Conference at Cannon Beach, Ore., and will be there for the remainder of the month. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Elga Abbott. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Driskell and son, Jimmy, a id Mr. and Mrs. Lelani Coffman and daughter, Marta, spent sev eral days of their vacation at Brookings. Mr. and Mrs. Vera Steph- enson and Mr. and Mrs. Ern . est Stephenson and grand childre spent several days camping at Nichols creek. Mrs. Burell Facey and daughters, Patsy ana Vanessa, recently went to Riverside, Calif., via Reno, Ne-. At Riv erside the Faceys visited Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Huddleston, Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Huddles ton and Montana Eacey. The A. E. Huddlestons are an aunt and uncle of Mrs. Facey and the H. A-. Huddlestons are Mrs. Facey's parents. Mon tana is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Burell Facey in the Navy sta tioned at Long Beach, Calif. The H. A. Huddlestons made the return trip with the Faceys as far as their home at Witter Springs, Calif. Saturday, July 25, Grange . " 9 . X met at the city park for a pot luck supper. " The HEC Grange ladies will meet Tuesday, Aug. 11, at the home of Mrs. Hank Wright at 1:30 p.m. All mem bers are urged to enter the White Satin canring contest and those having crocheted items for the J. C Coates con test are asked to notify Mrs, Wright so as to. get an esti mate of entries. . Mr. and Mrs. Roger Harris hav isturned from several weeks vacation in Canada and Alaska. The Harris s first stop north was at Moses lake, Wash., where they visited Mr. and Mrs. Guy Harris, brother and sister-in-law of Roger. In Canada, the Harrises camped at several lakes and went on to Fairbanks, Alaska. From Fairbanks they took plane over the Arctic Circle to Ft. Yukon. The Harrises also took an excursion tip on the Tanana river on a 50 passen ger sternwheeler. Included in the Harris s many stops were Dawson Creek, British Columbia, and Valdez, Alaska. On their re turn trip they stopped at John Day, Ore., where they visited tLeir son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Tracy. M-. and Mrs. Tracy are former residents and he is now rang r oi tr.e aiauieur National forest stationed at John Day. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Moore are the new proprietors of thj Butte Falls Shell Service. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Wells, for mer proprietors, have made tentative plans to remain in Butte Falls for the time be ing. The old station has been torn do-vn and a new one is being constructed in its place. Members of th Lady Lions held their August meeting Aug. 4 at the home of Mrs Duane Smeltzer. The August potl'ick dinner will be a chicken fry at Willow lake. Hostesses for the potluck will be Irs. Duane Smeltzer and Mrs. Bill Harris. Eisenhower's appointments today included the swearing in of Commerce Secretary Frederick H. Mueller, greet ing contestants in the annual Teen-Age Safe-Driving Road E.O, and meeting the new president of Lions Interna tional. , Hollywood - (UPD Newly weds actress Margaret O'Brien, 22, and art student Harold Robert Allen Jr., 24, sailed today for a month-long honeymoon in Honolulu.
